I got back from MLG Meadowlands today, and while I was there I chilled with a lot of friends I haven't seen in a while, but I also met some really awesome people. There was one person in particular, who I simply thought was amazing. His name is Randy, aka N0M4D. Placing 17th place in Rainbow Six with his team at their very first tournament last event, they were hoping to do better at this one. I'm not sure what place they got, but I think he said they got to 4th round. I didn't get to talk to him much, but I did manage to give him one of Dtoid's coveted "Also Cocks" t-shirts and score a picture with him.

From MLG Pro: Nomad was born with a rare muscle and joint disorder called Arthrogryposis that has confined him to a wheelchair and left him without the use of his arms or legs. While this disorder might have kept many others in similar positions away from the heated atmosphere of the professional gaming world, Nomad came to Charlotte and proved that he could compete with the top players on the circuit. He truly inspired the players around him, not only by being a talented member of his team, but also through his upbeat personality and friendly nature
Like it says in this article, by just watching his screen you can't even notice the difference between him and his teammates. With his slightly modded controller, it's simply amazing to watch him play. What's most impressive is that not only can he play completely with his mouth, but he's actually great. He is much better than most people could ever be at Rainbow Six.
Along with gaming, he's also passionate about graphic design. I believe he said he either has a job in graphic design or is working on having that to be his career. I got a small clip of him playing before I got kicked out from behind the ropes. Sorry it's not the best, but I got what I could.
He also an interview he did with Fox News.

This is fucking awesome.
I'm speechless. Brit this is amazing.
Aww. God bless him and you.
That's cool, it reminds of a post from a while ago on dtoid
Also I just watched that "Ron & Me" video?
WTF!
hahaha damnit... if this youtube shit would work I wouldn't have to link the myspace one. lol
That dude is hardcore.
yo.
awesome.
pure dedication to wanting to game and have fun, that man deserves a fucking medal.
Holy shittake. Beautiful. Big ups to him.
I like how his shirt looks like it just says "cocks." How did he interpret the shirt? I mean, was it just like, "Hey here's a shirt about cocks"?
Wait, so you guys don't play rainbow with your mouth?
But seriously, I wanna give that guy a high five. I really do.
Nice see see more dtoid shirts out on people! Hopefully he will check out the site if he is not on here already!
Personally being disabled or not doesn't matter to me, as long as you can game and have the passion that we all have then that's all I want to know! But people who over come 'obsticles' to participate in their passion is another thing. Well done to him :-D
Very, very cool.
that kid kicks lots of ass.
Inspiring.
Also, cocks ftw
I am speechless...and now scared to go online and play! haha
Dude is a fucking champ!
Awwwwwwwwww! What a nice blog you wrote about me Britini! *big hugs*And thank you all for the very nice comments! This is my first time on Destructoid.com. But I promise you all, I will become a regular. :) Sharpless, I didn't really interpret the shirt at all, or give it much thought haha. When you have five extremely beautiful girls, *winks at Britini* asking you to wear a shirt that says, "Cocks" on it, it is a little hard to refuse haha. Naw, the truth is, I promised them I would wear the shirt. And for those that know me, I never break a promise. I just couldn't wear it the day they gave it to me because I was still playing with my team and had to wear my team shirt. But when I showed up the next day wearing the shirt they gave me, the smile on Britini's face definitely made it all worth it! I came back to the venue just to say goodbye to Britini and to keep my promise by wearing the shirt. :)
awe. so freaking nice. :)
Hmm thats pretty impressive.
I wonder if he has ever played against this guy.....cuz ya know....their both disabled which makes gaming even more challenging.
Well N0M4D doesn't use his hands at all though so thats even harder!
omg!
how did you get into gaming nomad?
<b>"Sharpless, I didn't really interpret the shirt at all, or give it much thought haha. When you have five extremely beautiful girls, *winks at Britini* asking you to wear a shirt that says, "Cocks" on it, it is a little hard to refuse haha."</b>
Ok, so not only could he kick my ass in my chosen profession, the guy is more fucking charming than I am! My ego can't take this kind of abuse!
:)
Not only are you incredibly beautiful, but you care for those suffering physically or mentally in a way that most of us cannot comprehend. As the sibling of an autistic woman and an advocate of autism awareness, I find this heartwarming.
Danke.
Bleep, that was an interesting video. The problem with his setup is that with the computer assisted software, he cannot press 2 buttons at once. Thats the problem with what they call Sip and Puff techology. To participate on a professional level, with that technology, he couldn't keep up. That's why I designed my own setup. I discovered my own way of playing at age 3. Although I can't use my hands, I have alot more movement in the rest of my body than him. Muscular Atrophy is degenerative and terminal. His movement will keep decreasing until he passes away unfortunately. :(
I could design a much better setup for him most likely. I have designed a hands-free controller but cannot afford the patent yet. Again, hes much more severely disabled than me. So for what he can do, he deserves props.
Reeper,
When I was 3 years old, my dad used to take me to the
local bowling alley with his buddies. I saw them
playing Pac-Man one day and told my dad, "I wanna try!"
So my dad pulled a pinball machine in front of the Pac
-Man machine, and layed me on my stomach on the table.
I used my chin to control the joystick. I'd go every
weekend with my dad and got better and better. My dad
entered me in a local Pac-Man tournament when I was 4.
I ended up winning. When Nintendo came out, all my
friends had one. It took me about 15 minutes to figure
out if I turned the controller sideways, I could use my
chin for d-pad and my top lip for the A and B buttons.
I have evolved with the gaming industry ever since. It's just recently I decided to no longer hide behind Online Gaming. I was afraid I'd be treated differently. But the majority of the gaming community really suprised me and has been very supportive.
(jaw dropping)
NO..HANDS..
@dark_inchworm
It's not me feeling bad for him or anything, it's me just being simply amazed at how he can completely play with his mouth. So impressive.
on a side not... My sister is mentally handicap and I have helped her all my life too. :) along with Mrs Violence who's sister is mentally handicap as well. If I could get my sister to not hold the controller upside down >.<
lol snaileb... N0M4D's motto on his gamercard is "look ma, no hands!!"
so funny :P
I wanna play!
add him. His gamertag is N0M4D (the o's a zero)
we played gears with him a lot last night.
(his friends list might be full tho, he's kind of popular) :P
N0M4D needs to do his own community blog and then onto the front page!
I'm sure he would.
N0M4D Welcome to Dtoid my good sir! You are more then welcome here! I wish you luck on the future of your gaming, you have shown a dedication that cannot be ignored, and could be an inspiration to others like yourself. Hold your head high and be proud man I salute you as do the rest of us here I'm sure.
Apart from my arse kissing to you, what other games do you play man? I am curious as to how far you have taken your gaming!
Dyslixec,
I play anything and everything. Right now I play mostly R6V, DOA4, and Shadowrun. (I rape at those 3 hehe.)
good man! hah, I unfortunately do not have a 360 I am more of a pc gamer at heart. However I have played Rainbow Six Vegas on the PC and I Must say that is a damn fun game, I have not tried its multiplayer but I have heard good things.
N0M4D, Please add me to your friends list! I absolutley love DOA4 , and Gears, (I have 20 XBLA titles) and I REALLY wanna play with someone not using their hands (cuz I suck)!!
Ceareal, my gamertag : Snaileb
Also, I swear I suck but I'll kick your ass in DOA!!
Ok, Snail, I added you.
@NOM4D
You are an inspiration, and you got to meet Britini...I am jealous
ekoala2002,
Yeah, she's awesome isn't she!? <3 Britini FTW!
awe... N0M4D ftw :P
Sw33t, I won't tell you who I use so I can have SOME kind of element of suprise. See you in a couple hours!
ooo I notice the Interview you added to the blog britini very nice vid. And N0M4D shame you guys lost man but you made it damn far! Congrats ;D.
N0M4D sounds fecking awsome guy! go you! and its nice to see the gaming community (on the whole) being a supportive community! any one who likes dead or alive 4 is a winnar in my books! kasumi FTW!
haha his controller is modded and all the buttons have different functions. It's almost impossible to do what he does with a normal controller.
"I literally just tried playing Killer Instinct and Halo 2 with my mouth. I think I choked trying to do a combobreaker. My throat hurts. I'm still intrigued as to how the fuck you manage to play. Its so compelling. "
Quoted because that paragraph is compressed awesome.
I love the title change...LOL
I love the title change too...lol.....*winks at the ladies*
LMFAO N0M4D. You Win!
lol
has it ever gotten a little over whelming with attention at how you play games? like, bothersome that every turn it's "omfg, he plays with his mouth??!?!!?!?! he roxxors, ftw!"
and how did you get a modded 360 controller for mouthular functions? i want one. lol :D
oh
i agree with nex too. this charming thing makes me feel like an idiot, and that i should give up with females. lol :P
Friggin' ace, N0M4D. Welcome to the 'toid! I second the motion for a blog. If you write here, I'll subscribe!
I saw the title and thought " hang on a minute".
I'm happy it was something completely different.
I say front page this post... Today.... Please.
Gamers Unite!
Speak for yourself GENACON, I feel totally let down.
*puts clothes back on*
Britini, great post. NOM4D = WIN. Welcome to the Dtoids.
Oh my God, N0M4D, you may be the coolest human being that ever lived. This post made my day! :)
(this took a while so it'll prolly get lost)
I wasn't patting you on the back because you felt bad for him or anything. I was saying that based on what little else I'd read about you before, and yeah, I was aware you had a mentally handicapped sister. Hence the compliments.
I know the issues between her and N0M4D are vastly different, but... My sister was in the special ed program throughout her stay in school, and she caught all manners of hell not only from the students but from even the administration. It is a pleasure to find anyone that cares for the physically/mentally disabled instead of shunning them with their "omg deficiency!" bullshit.
I found the story fascinating as well. Hell, I'm fully functional and can't even play Pac-Man worth a shit, so many, many kudos to you, N0M4D. It's nice to see you and anyone else achieving what others may assume to be impossible.
omg, best Dtoid blog post in 4 EVAR! Good job Britini!
And way to fucking go N0M4D. I think someone already said it, but I can't play R6 with my freakin' hands! Very impressive to be playing tournies, no matter how you're doing it! Welcome to Destructoid!
Ok, I played Snaileb...hehe...yeah....I beat him.....You'll get me next time man!
I've been beatboxing for around a year or so now, does that count? :)
N0M4D, that is beyond fantastic. How much would the patent for your no-hands setup cost? I'd be more than willing to contribute to a fund to get that going, and I'm sure other D-toiders would as well.
NOM4D, you seriously rock hardcore! You have turned a handicap into an inspiration. Welcome to dtoid!
Much love and props to NOM4D. An inspiration to all gamers, for certain.
I'm curious -- Do you play any PC games? Command & Conquer 3, perhaps? We gotta play sometime, man.
You rock. Period.
Fantastic post. Best of luck to you, N0M4D.
win
where can i get a N0M4D shirt!?!?
since this has become the unofficial ask NOM4D comment thread... I was wondering where you came up with that name. its rather unique. Oh also Hi! I'm Lark from the ventrilo. you should hop in there and chat with us while your gaming some time ;)
NOM4D, please have my children.
Awesome NOM4D.
I love how you're pwning your specific situation. Your attitude is incredible.
At this point I think you deserve at minimum a blow job from Britini.
Hop to it girl!
Or I'm sure Agent Nixon will service you, but that's probably a dude.... so you have that.
MechaMonkey,
It's super expensive. I went to a lawyer about this and apparently there are fees to search for other patents like it, fees to actually patent the idea, and apparently to have a patent you need to have a working prototype. Which means I would have to find a company to build it. Then I would have to get the licensing ok'd from Microsoft to use it on their product. By my calculations, it came out to around $20,000. So as nice of a gesture as that is, I don't think any of us have that kind of money. Thank you very much for the thought though.
Yo Snaileb and Nomad, Mind if i send you both FR's? I rented Shadowrun recently and I want to get some worthwhile fun out of it before I have to return it, Also I would like to think I'm good at RB6 Vegas, so ya sending you two requests.
908peruvian,
That's really nice of you haha. I'm actually thinking about having a funny picture of me on the front of the T-shirt that says, "look ma, no hands!" And selling it on my teams website www.equalgamers.com lol.
LarkOhiya,
That is kind of a long story. Basically, when I was younger, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I've moved from state to state with my friends to try to figure out where I belong. Basically, a nomad is someone who travels the world like a bum. But I prefer the more philosophical approach. I believe, a nomad is someone who travels the earth searching for their purpose, and during his travels and adventures he stops in villages and shares his adventures and stories with the children so they can learn more about the world. So basically, it describes me to a tee. I'm a person that is still searching for his purpose in life.
I would love to join you in ventrilo, but I do not know the server information. :)
Savant,
It just so happens I just bought C&C 3. I'm not that great at it yet, but I would love to play sometime. :)
Agent Nixon,
Please tell me you're not a dude! lol
Detry,
Oh my god dude hahaha...... I think if that happened, I would be murdered by her boyfriend. lol.... but just to let all the other ladies know, I am single! ;)
Her boyfriend is drunk all the time, so I'm pretty sure it's ok.
:D
If you don't know the server info do what every spammer and screamer does. search "destructoid ventrilo" in google thats all you'll need.
Ah...no reply to me. V_V You make baby Seraph cry. heh. Detry you leave Ron alone, he just needs support with his..."problem" and by support I mean more beer.
detry has a point.
SeraphX,
Sorry bro....didnt know yours needed a reply lol...you said you were going to send Friend Requests...so....send them! ;)
@N0M4D
If your playing C&C3 hit me up on XBL (my xbl gamer tag is my username). I need more people to play with >.<;
I'm glad I didn't write a blog about the Meadowlands event. Brit's just blew anything I had to say out of the water.
@atheistium
Your list is full. :(
awesome - thanks for sharing!
