Jaffe shut up, you flunked out of real dev. If you like those digital games, fine. But dont extend what you do on someone else
Becuse i assume more splosions and fan service is what makes it sell.
Problem is that every publisher is holding on to their biggest guns and trying to do COD type numbers:(
Doing what Jaffe said makes perfect sense and would have worked a lot better.
about risks though, these publishers ARE taking huge risks, but by putting so much money into titles and praying they at least break even. The developers should be the ones taking risks, not the other way around.

I don't think this game is bad per se, it's just so much action packed to be a Resident Evil game and almost every review that a I read don't mention technical fails...
Well, i never really payed attention to Metacritic or any review in general, sometimes i just look video reviews like the ones of IGN or here in Destructoid just to see the gameplay and style of the game. It was funny when I get so hyped for Lollipop Chainsaw when looking the review in IGN and the they give it a lovely 5/10... And even then i buy it and loved it to death =D
Just how misinformed and cowardly can you be?
So far, I'd say it's pretty damn good overall despite it's huge flaws. It's one of those games.
Are you really comparing the two different versions? They are the same exact game. One isn't better because of platform. Less reviewers have posted PS3 reviews, thus skewing the score.
saw a part where the player shot a body laying against a wall just for laughs that was already dead. walked by it with nothing happening.
then he had to go back and check a door he forgot about, that he knew was locked but didnt "activate" the open button cut scene, so he went and checked it so the game could move along to tell him its locked.
comes back to the other door where the zombie was near and BOOM that same zombie jumps him.
and dont get me started about the train battle. and zombies that just appear out of no where during boss fights. the stupid fact you shoot at this monster boss, then to actually HURT him you have to make him turn human then punch him in the face. yeah, bullets dont hurt, but punches do.
As an RE it fucking blew so hard.
The story had virtually no ties to the rest of the series, hell, it had no ties to itself! They hardly explain what the Family is, give no information about the c-virus (unless I missed something), and expect us to care about characters we know absolutely fuck-all about. Oh, and the whole love story thing throughout is so damn stupid.
Aside from that, it's not even scary. At all.
But yeah, as a game it was pretty fun. There were a handful of parts that were extremely boring (Chapter 1 of Chris' campaign) or just plain bad (any driving/flying section). Oh, and the "Survive X waves/kill X enemies" objectives in Leon's campaign were ridiculous. "Here's a handful of ammo, go kill 300 enemies."
But yeah, I'd give it a 6/10.
...
This isn't a review? OHHHH
Yeah, I like Jaffe's idea
Anyway, good idea jaffe. It saves money on physical products being shipped and by not having to rely on a publisher. It could also make the team focus on the important stuff rather than fluff the game up with unnecessary, intertwining and convoluted-as-fuck stories.
And i repeat, i don't even care above scores or review of Metacritic, they are fun to read but they don't affect my decision when buying a game.
On the other hand I think the very legacy of RE is a dead weight now...no pun intended. The future of horror/thriller games that will again attention/hype are about open world games with light RPG elements. Games like Dead Island 2 or Day-Z are where the zeitgeist of gamer desires lies in the west.
I think RE6 could have even worked it it was more polished, the fact that is became more of an action game is not the huge problem the huge problem is they did a lousy job. Probably a game that will do what RE6 might have wanted to do is The Last of Us -- (Action-cover-supply-battle-puzzle-buddy-adventure)
more like jaffe is being stupid and projecting his own new deal on only doing dd 2-3 hour games onto other games when thats not really what it calls for
@cody
exactly
They did reboot. Going through the game I was thinking "Capcom said this game would be a reboot, I don't see it." And then I realized-it's the story they were talking about
As I said above; virtually no connections to the rest of the series' story. It's its own thing, story-wise
Meh, opinions. It doesn't sound stupid to me, it sounds like a damn good idea. Resident evil 6 as it is sounds stupid to me, however, so take that as you will.
I cant think of 1 2-3 hour dd title in the bunch.
Its 1 thing to cut budget. Which maybe is not a terrible Idea. Its another to go all the way to indie 2-3 hour digital like he is now since the studios wont have much to do with him anymore.
but when it was first releases was it a physical release or not? Its only digital now because its hard to find copies in the wild. The digital part doesnt make it a better game which is what jaffe is talking about, how to "fix" re
I just think jaffe is off base when he says in order to make a horror game it has to be 2-3 hours and digital. It doesnt. None of the big horror hits this gen have, they should be copying those
There's a point of diminishing returns when you throw too many ideas and too many people on a project that it ultimately does a lot of things, but none of them very well.
It's not only too many cooks in the kitchen that can spoil the broth, Jim, but too many ingredients that can ruin the taste of the dish.
And saying that none of the big horror hits this gen are short or dd is untrue; Amnesia and lone survivor would like a word.
Normally, - and trust me, I hate having to say this - you're pretty much correct. This time however... It sounds like you just haven't really put a lot of thought into it before speaking.
From what I've heard, Resident Evil 6 is a 40 hour game with maybe half an hour's worth of genuine enjoyment. Ick.
and I am saying to you, not only is that not ideal in making a good horror, its not necessary. There are ways to cut costs without going all the way to dd dev.
Like I said the absolute best horrors of this gen like dead space or corpse party, or even there own RE revelations, is what capcom should of literally copied for VI
In fact, if they just renamed re revelations TO re vi, people would of probably been alot happier, since that is true horror, its long, its deep, and its not dd.
but a 2-3 hours CONSTANT game, so no check points. so you have to complete it in one sitting. so you have to find out the monster and kill it before times up or you freeze there or maybe they bomb it.
the infected hidden monster is always a different person. adding much replay. etc.
keep the tension on high threw out the whole game. make ammo actually limited to the compound. no kill and spawn ammo kinda stuff. only the people in the story are there. no random encounters etc. everything you can use is on the property and thats it. you have to move and quarantine the bodies which takes up time. you have to do interview kinda things like in LA Noire to figure out whos the monster.
He's not saying digital is superior. He's saying that because it's a budget matter; physical games simply do cost more to manufacture, package, and ship. You're reading into what he says way too much.
Because short games can't be great games.
OH WAIT HOLD ON A SECOND: Journey, Portal, LIMBO, etc.
