The far-reaching tentacles of the villainous ECONOMIC CRISIS SQUID have slithered their foul way into PlayStation Home, where housing prices are so low they're practically giving them away. This oh-so-funny bit of "satire" basically means to say that a new apartment is available in Home for the low price of bugger-all, but only for a week.
If for some reason you absolutely adore Home yet still aren't quite retarded enough to want to spend money in it, you can exchange your standard apartment for the "Chamber Apartment." This is obviously very exciting and stuff, so I'm sure all of you will now break the vow of a lifetime and reinstall Home to download it.
The new apartment has a tree with a human face in it, automatically making it the most interesting thing that will ever be in Home. I'll wager that the thirty-two seconds of amusement you'll get out of that tree is well worth sitting through five minutes of loading screens for, right?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Applies to people with IQ in the range of 57 to 62.
I especially hate how people are constantly insulting anyone who goes in for a micro transactions like buying clothing in home. That parts not even limited to home. I have never bought virtual clothing and I'm doubtful that I ever will but I can see the appeal of having more options to differentiate yourself from the people you interact with. How is that any different then buying clothing in real life? I doubt you only own the minimum amount of clothing necessary to avoid getting arrested for walking around nude so whether you acknowledge it or not your buying clothes just to effect how you appear and since it seems unlikely that you will sell your clothes later or do anything with them other then wear them you aren't getting anymore of a value out of them then if they where digital. Even if you don't want to personally spend money on that kind of micro transaction you have to be willing to acknowledge that not only are there existence not hurting you but you are benefiting from them. IF you have EVER played a free to play MMO then you have directly benifited from other peoples willingness to pay for micro transactions.
Seriously.
As for Home, I don't get it. Yeah, it's got pool and bowling, but I don't want to fucking wait in line for that. I want to play it immediately with my friends. Waiting for some dip to play the billiards game for 30 minutes and then have someone jump ahead of me because he's closer to the "mark" where you can start a game isn't all that much fun. Maybe if you could just play immediately?
I also don't like how sheltered Home feels. Yeah, it's separated by continent, but the experience is different between each region and it feels stifling to get these different experiences that don't mesh.
As for it not being anything like WOW, you couldn't be more right, but in a different way. You get out of WOW what you put into it. If you have lots of friends that play, there's loads to do in WOW. I get the exact same experience you get on WOW on Home. No one I know uses it, most have it either deleted or unused because no one else hangs out on it. The whole concept of themed areas is nice, but vastly underused. So far we've got Warhawk for launching games, and the Namco Museum room for Japan.
I'm sure it'll grow some in it's lifetime, but for pete's sake, it's 2 years late to the game and launched with nothing, enough to where a lot of people really don't want to bother with what it supposedly offers. I know I really don't.
You just described second life.
Nah, a timed free appartment wont get me into this game, but I may as well have it just in case something worthwhile actually does come down the line..
Where's Jonathon Ross? I have a candidate for the next Fanboy Friday.
So I like to go in and mess with as many things as possible for his next login. Beyond that, Home is boring.
Christ I knew other people uninstalled it but I didn't know I wasn't the only one to make that vow.
That being said, let us not break it.
Me too. 45 minutes of waiting in line for a cheap Arkanoid knock off and I said "fuck it". I did install it for the Red Bull airplane game, then promptly uninstalled again.
@ThatOtherPerson
You know where I can play all those games? Yahoo Games, and the load time is 30 seconds, with no waiting in line, with better social networking/lobbies.
Also, I hate to say it, but if you get 0 social interaction in WoW, you either suck at the game, or no one likes you. Seriously, I spent 90% of my time with others, either farming materials, doing instances, grinding, pvping or raiding. All with friends I had in real life, or made through the game.
That said, Home still has been a massive disappointment from what I was expecting. But I'll wait till the EA room expands a bit more before I completely abandon it ;)
tl;dr
what's it like being a complete tool? clothes keep me warm - Home does not.
Otherwise, its good to know that some people actually enjoy Home.
