Everyone screams. It’s the universal sign of terror or excitement. After watching an episode of American Idol it’s become clear to me that screaming is also a valid form of entertainment. Contestants scream when they talk, wail when they lose, and threaten to blow my speakers when they win. There’s one female contestant that howls when she laughs and begs. I think she needs psychiatric intervention, but I’m going to enjoy when she crashes and burns on live television.
American Idol doesn’t rely wholly on screaming, but cheap horror flicks do. The damsel is always screaming and the movie tries to pop and quick cut you into doing the same.
Headstrong Game’s Wii exclusive shooter House of the Dead: Overkill is like a sleazy horror title. It features plenty of violence, wants you to feel insecure enough to invite a buddy in on the action, and seems to promise a few laughs (or screams) in the process. After the break, a brand new trailer is available for your viewing pleasure. It’s launch trailer celebrating the game’s ... launch. It features a ton of gameplay and focuses on the title's level of brutality. Check it out.
After about 2 hours of co-op play last night, I can say without reservation that this game is stellar. Framerate be damned. It's fun as hell, and the sense of humor and grindhouse feel are absolutely great.
What does a brother have to do to pacify a bitch? Isaac Washington FTW.
I got the game yesterday. I only spent a few hours with it but I like the feel better than RE Umbrella Chronicles. I'm not sure if it's an aim tuning thing or just the way the zombies move, but I had an easy time racking up combos and getting Goregasms.
The songs that play on the menus are almost embarrassingly filthy, but once you get into that grindhouse mood, you start to smirk every motherf-in' time some motherf-er shouts "motherf-er!" (Yes, I self censor. I have a professorship to preserve.)
@gains: I meant to mention the music. It's fantastic. The language is a bit much for me at times (in a "hold on, this is way to much to be effective" way, not a, "my virgin ears!" way). It goes hand in hand with the overall grindhouse feel though. It's sweet and sour . . . like a chinese dinner.
Also, kudos on having a professorship to serve. You're living my dream!
yeah my buddie will be getting this game, probibly. Im interested in playing it, but I dont think it will have the same feel as a HOTD in a arcade. The zapper cant replace a light gun that actually looks like a gun, and is comfortable.
Yep, bought the game last night, loved every minute of it. I hear the swearing complaints though, they drop the f-bomb way too much, but it remains in a humorous fashion so I'll allow it.
The game is great though they did everything right, story mode is easy enough for anyone to pick up and play through, there's a fun combo system for score attacking, plenty of unlockables and a challenging Director's Cut mode.
I've only played it for a few hours, but it is already looking to be amongst my favorite light-gun shooters.
Does the game include any kind of calibration tool? I've found that with my screen size plus the distance that I normally stand away from it usually equates to the pointer not being exactly where I'm aiming, and it obviously gets worse as I go farther out on the screen. It would be nice if I could actually calibrate the corners of the screen.

I have to give the developers two comments. One, they got the grindhouse feel spot on, two, they made a pretty fun light gun game.

Yes. In the control options along with the ability to switch the crosshair off for a more authentic HotD feel.
Try this out. Makes light gun games excellent. The only problem is that it may scratch up your battery door cover on the remote.
