While I have no problems using GFWL myself it is good news for other pc gamers that hate that service.
I can't use LIVE on Xbox or on the PC because my credit card wouldn't work for some reason so microsoft has locked all my accounts down and, as far as I know and care, I can't/don't want to set up a new account anyways with them because it's just basically spyware because LIVE takes a ton of usage statistics and delays me getting into my games. However, it is far less annoying than the Origin service.
As someone moving from xbox back to pc I kind of liked the live featue so I could still see my xbox freinds list... Why is it hated?

The patching process was really badly implemented. Often times you had to patch GWLF before patching your game. Steam's patching system is much simpler and unobtrusive.

I hope being a GFW game means it will natively support the 360 controller. While the kb/m is much better for speed and accuracy, nothing beats laying back comfortably and playing on my 65" TV, while still using my PC for a better experience.

I saw that logo on the collector's box art. How are they going to have GFWL without having the client/popups? I don't understand.

If you want to see your friends list and send messages while playing PC games, you can sign in to your account on xboxlive.com. I never had problems with GFWL - I enjoyed getting double achievement points for the few games I had for both 360 and GFWL - but it's really lackluster. It has fewer feature's than Live on 360, which makes no sense considering it's a PC application.

@Jajuka - You should still be able to use other software to make profile mappings, for however many games you want. A friend of mine has been using gamepads for a decade now, and has been using the 360 controller in recent years for lots of stuff.

@Jajuka - Game Profiler is one, but it has a cost attached. Not sure if there is freeware with similar capabilities.
A lot of people have issues with the service, because as JIm Sterling said it's absolute crap. I have had no problems with it, I know many other people have though.

@Daspooch Strangely I did, Internet has been on the fritz today, I blame the thunderstorms and Comcast.
Quite obviously. In fact, i believe, they will use stewmworks. Why? Oblivion and Morrowind on Steam use Steam cloud (i kinda missed when it was made available, btw) and because New Vegas used and RAGE will use steamworks. So, yeah. I think they will go with Steam this time. They went with GFWL last time only for an easier DLC publishing service, i believe. And Steam does DLCs now and so much more.
@Cryotek: I agree on that. K&M usually is the better choice, but certain games (like Devil May Cry 4) just scream controller. Literally scream controller though, that game begins to hurt your wrist after awhile.
@Fullmetalfox "baww gfwl sux cuz i have to create another account". Seriously get over it. You also have to create accounts when you play a EA, Blizzard or Gamespy enabled game. I swear most of the complaints against GFWL are nitpicks by people with entitlement issues. I love GFWL because it lets me chat with all my X360 friends and does not restrict me on which directory I can install a game, and lets me uninstall DLC at will. The same cannot be said about Steam, with its atrocious download speeds and times where it forces you to redownload the entire game, even if you buy it from retail stores. The fact that PC publishers are blindly throwing their games on Steam and cutting out alternative PC platforms is why I will not be buying Skyrim.
Hmmmm. Kinda liked the idea of the gamerscore being tied to my Xbox one but hay-ho. The important thing here is that there is a game called 'Skyrim' and it will be out soon!!!
games for windows live is not that bad, I am not saying it is good or anything but I personally never had any reall issues with it.
No one has ever given me a single good reason to hate on Games for Windows Live. The ONLY thing that they need to improve is the lack of DRM specifics on the backs of the boxes. Other than that, it's EXACTLY the same as Steam, service-wise.
Well this makes me very happy, who the hell gives a crap about achievements? I have never once tried to accomplish any and never will, I get annoyed whenever the stupid window pops up when I'm gaming. I think the only people who will be heartbroken over this are people who were never going to buy the PC version to begin with.
@Pedro, it just plain doesn't work sometimes. Installs a client that takes several times longer to download games than steam, has higher prices than steam, has a crappy invite system, ATROCIOUS messaging system, everything to do with your profile is complete horseshit, it's confusing to set up voice chats, frequently signs out and drops games, and the fact that only a few good games absolutely require it when there's the amazing steam client just makes it a waste of time.
@ strangerdanger I know I can go to the web site but I can't voice chat from there. I know its strange but I have a freind with no phone and xbox live is the only way to get a hold of him, so its nice not having to fire up tge 360 to chat. But I can see why a pc purist wouldnt like it.
