Just what we needed, more VIP maps for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Today marks the release of the fifth set of these, if you can believe that. As always, the maps themselves aren't new per se, but they have been tinkered with to work with alternate multiplayer modes.

"White Pass" in Rush mode and "Nelson Bay" in Conquest mode (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) are what you're getting for free this time, assuming you still have one of those nifty VIP codes that are packed in with every new copy of Bad Company 2.

At this point, I have to wonder how many more of these quick-and-dirty VIP maps DICE can pump out before we get something substantial -- like the upcoming Vietnam expansion. Because really, I'd much rather play (and pay for) that than download the current free offerings.

5 map packs and I still have no interest in returning to bad company 2.

These are not new maps, there are repurposed maps. BC2 is my favorite multiplayer game but this is getting annoying. Release some new maps, even the ones from BC would be nice. Stop doing this crap Dice.

I really liked EA's free-DLC-for-buying-new incentive in theory, but in execution (both here and in Mass Effect 2) none of the stuff they've given away has been worth the amount we would have saved buying used. (Although I suppose it's a bit different here, since without these "new" maps it'd be kind of difficult to join a match.)

Still, the free Mass Effect 2 DLC was mostly worthless, and to get the big stuff (Kasumi and Overlord) you still had to fork over more money.

Agreed. These "free" map packs are pretty crappy. I'd much rather get onslaught for free or some NEW maps. They're probably focusing their recources on MOH. And if that's the case fix the "get shot once, freeze then auto dead" cuz that made me stop playing the beta after 3 rounds.

My copy of BF:BC2 didn't come with a VIP code, even though it was bought new from the store. No one at Dice's forum felt like answering me, my 'please help I have no VIP code' thread still stands empty today.

At least the supposedly free DLC is shite so I don't have that much to cry about.

Please DICE, for the love of all that is holy, release some NEW maps. The game is brilliant, and some NEW maps would make it even better. No more rebranding maps, NEW ones please.

I love Bad Company 2 to death but I absolutely need a fresh batch of maps. 5 new maps for 12 bucks would actually be perfect in my world.

So.... PLEASE DO THIS DICE. I don't want to have to wait for the (surely excellent) BFBC2:Vietnam expansion to play some new maps. Though I'm hella psyched for some completely new multiplayer XP ladders :D

I wouldn't hold my breath on brand new maps. Next time your idling at the main menu for BC2 go over and check out Store and go down to the very bottom. It shows upcoming add-ons for the game, with only two more spots left. One will be another VIP add-on and the last looks like it'll be pay.

White Pass is great for Conquest, but not so much for Rush.

I'm still getting acclimated to Nelson Bay Conquest...it's pretty nuts since the terrain makes it nearly impossible to tell where people are hiding.

I don't think a single one of these maps has actually been any good. They had a pretty good ratio of success for the originals, and even the not so good ones are still playable, but these re-tooled maps are all almost invariably poorly designed and frustrating to play on.

At this point, I'd pay 800-1200 for NEW MAPS. You hear that, DICE? You make them, I give you money.

They are free. Stop complaining. I think it's great to keep getting support for a game like this, esp. since it's free. I have gotten my money's worth of this game ( have it for PC and loving it ) If you expected new maps or new gameplay modes, you are indeed the dumbest of dumb...congrats!

@ Bill Mueller,

"They are free. Stop complaining."

Weird, I could have sworn I paid $60 for this game which would have given me a voice to how I want this game supported. Apparently I didn't though?

they do not have time to be making real map packs when EA is forcing them to work on that stupid new Medal of Honor.

@runtheplacered,

Your $60 bought you a game, not the right to say jack about how anything the developers did with the DLC would go. Their is a disturbing trend of self entitlement among gamers this generation when it comes to DLC, extras, and special editions.

Their was a time when a game was just a damn game ,take it or leave it and nobody wondered when the next batch of downloads was coming 5 mins after release. Gamers are frikin spoiled now. I blame the internet.

I wish they'd develop some new maps and sell us a map pack.

If you aren't going to support your game with new content then at least give us some fucking mod tools.

Yo SurvivingFallout,

No offense, man, but the fact is this, they backed up the game with VIP, a choice that would alienate the fans who bought the game new or old. They basically told us "You scratch our backs, we scratch yours" with that choice.

Cut to this bullshit here.

Go read the DICE blog about problems with new content and patching there having basicly no matter how small the changes the patches will always be larger in size and they dont want to screw over download capped people with a 2 gig patch when there only allowed 1, same with onslaught mode for pc, they'd need to instill listen servers for pc because of reduced player count. The frostbite engine was built entirely for consel and is jimirigged to work like BF2 for pc players. I sympathize cause basicly there restructuring the update and pre rendering of the game with only the post release crew. So get off your high horse and stop ruining getting free content for the rest of us.

Just stop making games like this for consoles.

Just make crap like call of duty, etc.

Leave large scale games to PC, where they can flourish..

@ SurvivingFallout,

"Your $60 bought you a game, not the right to say jack about how anything the developers did with the DLC would go"

mmmmm, no.. you are definitely wrong about that. I have the right to say whatever I want.

But despite whatever my rights may or may not be, if they don't want to alienate a customer base, you would think being smart about DLC would still be a good thing, right?

"So get off your high horse and stop ruining getting free content for the rest of us."

Really? Because from where I'm sitting it looks like you're acting that your horse is higher then mine. I mean you even just tried to tell me I don't have rights. lol.
