Home is finally live, let the rubbing on helpless virtual females begin photo

After hours of waiting and some confusion, it appears as though the official open beta for Sony’s Home has begun. If you want to take part, simply pull up the XMB on your PlayStation 3 and choose the Home icon. At that point, you’ll be whisked away to a magical, albeit virtual world, rife with social interaction and advertisements.

Many of you may have been wondering why exactly it took so long. It appears as though the Sony network gremlins experienced a few kinks in the process of putting Home up for everyone. According to PS3Fanboy, the entirety of PlayStation Network went down for around an hour. Then, the team found a “couple of technical problems” that they needed to address before mass release.

If you were a part of the closed beta, be prepared to be surprised when you walk out of your apartment. Sony has rearranged all the buildings, created a new Central Plaza, redecorated interiors and much more. Expect our impressions later this afternoon.

Let the playstation Home hate begin.

It's amazing how many people will comment in a subject that they are nor interested in or don't have the proper hardware to use it.

lol Poor, poor sony. They had so much to offer and delayed and delayed but they haven't fixed login issues XD this shouldn't even be an issue, but it is. I want this to work I really do. I want to have a reason to dustdown my PS3 other than cleanliness!.

Any other UK'ers got this to work yet?

It's hilarious. I play my PS3 almost every day (and I have since I purchased it over a year ago), and it still collects dust on a daily basis.

Sweet. It's up and running. Looks great. I've been on it since 4. They weren't kidding about deleting our clubs once the closed beta ends, so to all of you who were in the Destructoid Readers Fan Club I created before, it is gone. But they said that would happen so no surprises. The good news is that I've registered our club for real and it is up and running. I sent invites to everyone, but if I missed you, just do a search in the clubs tab or add me: NEScrozen and ask for an invite.

Also, if you got the invite, come and hang out, I'm in the clubhouse right now setting it up and I could use some help moving the furniture. See you there.

it ain't at all chanced from the closed beta aside fro the square. it still lacks any features to set it apart from anything. i kept getting errors myself. i want to join the hate-mob but its still JUST A BETA. and if anyone has any complaints, don't list them here, tell sony of them or nothing will get done, its what the beta is for.

errors here too

Sony gave us home finally, now if only they'd open the damn door

i guess sony saw the epic fail they had on their hands and didn't bother to prepare for this launch.

this is why PSN is free

$5 to start a club plus a monthly fee? If a single PS3 owner does this, they are officially never allowed to dump on the monthly XBL fee ever again. Ever...

i'm in.

i really don't know what's so special about it .. i think it's totally boring. people are running around and no one's talking to each other.

NXE is 10x better because it delivers important features.

it's good that it's free though.

I tried to try Home yesterday. After doing yet another system update (during which I was able to turn on my 360, download some Arcade trials and try them out), my PS3 wouldn't log me into Home. It would just sit there, saying it's logging in, but would never proceed. This happened twice. The PS3 is increasingly appearing to be worthless to me.
