Blue Dragon Plus for the Nintendo DS was just released in Japan earlier this month, and we're already hearing about plans to bring the title to the US and Europe.

Ignition Entertainment has announced that they've acquired the rights to this portable role-playing game, with plans to launch in both territories in March of 2009.

From the release:

In Blue Dragon Plus, one year has passed since Shu and his companions defeated the tyrannical remnant of the Ancients, Nene. In the midst of the battle, the world split in two and now consists of a myriad of "cubes" that exploded from its depths. King Jibral notices a mysterious cube in the distance suddenly start to move violently, and from it he sees the Shadow of a Balaur, a three-headed dragon, emerge. The enormous and sinister Shadow is just the beginning of the new turmoil and devastation to come.

This title has over 30 hours of game play, with real-time Poo battling using stylus swipes. BDP also features some pretty slick cutscenes for a DS title.

The original wasn't my cup of tea, but I dig tactical strategy, so we're keeping an ear out for the Japanese reviews. Does Blue Dragon Plus look like something you'd play?

ugh, I smell some crappy game coming our way.

Blue Dragon wasn't too good, not horrible/unplayable, just not very good. Decent.

I don't expect much from this game. I reeks of crap

It was not the presentation, graphics, or storyline that I had a problem with the game.

It was with the actual mechanics of the game. The Job system and magic system wasn't done too well, to be honest it felt half-ass.

The abilities were also pretty limited and lack of equipment variety made the game feel much smaller than it was. Basically it didn't feel like a full fledge rpg as far as content and game mechanics are concerned.

I second that Heretic. Awesome game. I might have to pass on this one, tactical strategy rpg's and I are not in good terms.

Ignition? Bastardized localization, here we come since I know they won't hire someone with any writing skills to translate and rework the script.

Well - fuck this game. :(

This makes me want to go buy Blue Dragon. Or finish Lost Odyssey (fuck you, end-game boredom syndrome). It doesn't, however, make me want to go buy BDP.

FFXII Revenant Wings left the bitter taste of mediocrity in my mouth, and BDP looks surprisingly similar to it.

Blue Dragon was a great RPG, had a very old school feeling.

But stylus swipes? Ugg.
