Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! now a PSN-only title photo

The super long-named Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman! What did I do to deserve this? was originally going to be a PSP release, but now it seems that NIS America has made the decision to make the title a PlayStation Network download only. We heard rumors about this yesterday, but now NIS has confirmed its PSN exclusivity.

They say the decision to go all-digital came after seeing the response from gamers to the downloadable demo. They hope that the game's small size and ease of access help in easing the pain of not getting a physical copy. Look at it this way: if Sony gets what they want with the PSPgo, this will be the case for many more games in the future. Might as well get used to it, right?

So if you're into thie crazy retro-looking strategy game, you'll now have to hop on the PlayStation Network on July 16th, where it will be sold for $19.99.

So it begins. Are you ready for $20 of download-only games?

Badman's demo plays like a pretty good flash game. Is it worth a full $20? Hell no. It's not appearing at retail at all, why the hell are they pricing it at some retarded arbitrary MSRP-esque price point? This is stupid.

I've got that title ringing in my head the whole fucking day. While playing Lego: Batman every time I see 'Batman' I want mind wants me to yell "Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!" I don't know. I think I must play this game before I can say it's worth it.

Hmm, the Patapon 2 route. Good to see. That game seems to have done fairly well, and it was download only.

@Jayge. GEE IT SHORE IS FUN ASSUMING A GAME'S DEPTH BASED ON THE DEMO HUH?

if you didn't see, there's alot of stuff to uncover, and NIS is notorious for having a fair chunk of content in their games.

The name and retro-feel intrigue me greatly, but $20 seems steep. I expect Jim to give a sterling review of this game immediately so I can decide. He's fucking ruthless and saves me from spending money on shit titles.

After playing the demo I think $20 is too much for this game. Don't get me wrong it's great and I'm sure it gets deep but it still feels like a $10 game.

Relative to the $30-40 price tag of UMD releases this is probably a good deal, but that has never been a reasonable price for portable gaming if you ask me. Which is definitely why I have purchased exactly 0 UMD games since buying a PSP a year ago. Maybe those prices are what it takes to recoup the cost of producing a PSP game, but that only goes further to prove that perhaps there isn't a market for the PSP. It's a great system, but the value proposition at the price point they've got it at is pretty low.

Even though I'd be a lot more comfortable with this at $15 I'll definitely be picking it up day one. The demo was great and is possibly the most effective one I've ever played. I've never had a game go from mild curiosity to must have after playing the demo. I hope it does well, but maybe not that well if that would help push the price a little bit lower for PSP downloadable games.

Definitely not worth $20. I haven't check it out but from graphics alone I can tell you $4.99. Because it would have to have wicked gameplay similar or better than old school Zelda.

For $20 why not get Final Fantasy 7? I'm not even sure what the price of it is but I guarantee it's worth $20.

needs to be playable on ps3...seriously. I don't even own one and I think its rediculous that these DLC titles can't be played on both console and handheld. The compression aspect might be the issue but it can't be that hard to do.

@ MrSlippery Well, it's kind of the point of a demo. If you can't draw any conclusion from it, why would you download it?

I rate games based on demos all the time. If I play a game demo more than trice (is that a word?), it's mostly a buy

@CBunn, I am aware of that, the fact that he's simply labelling it a flash game, when in fact the Dev behind it has a reputation for making games with deep gameplay mechanics is just silly.

It's got plenty of levels and creatures, and numerous RPG stereotypes to do battle with, also, all the units can be upgraded, but whether or not it's just how it was in the demo or if the ycan be put further is yet to be seen.

The game was going to cost $30 at retail. Why is it so bad that it's $10 cheaper to download? I don't understand this line of thinking. Most of the other UMD-to-PSN games are more. I can buy Jeanne d'Arc cheaper on UMD than I can get it on PSN. Be glad that NIS realizes that digitally distributed games should cost less than games on a physical media.

I was interested in the game for $30; at $20, it's a no-brainer.

@cbunn: The word you're looking for is thrice.

its funny, you can use remote play to play few psn games on the psp and you can download psp games on your ps3 hdd but you can't play them on your ps3, only copy them to the psp. i understand the whole market of buying and selling but it would drive ps3 sales further and its just the digital stuff anyway. the psp is about dead and the go is too expensive for a 4-5 year old handheld.

give me a hammer, i want to drive that nail myself.

Goddammit! This went from a "MUST BUY" on PSP to a "I don't give two fucks about it now" on the PSN. Mainly due to the fact that I too am an NIS game collector, and if I can't have it in a physical form, it doesn't exist to me. Plus, a niche developer/publisher like them, shouldn't do digital downloads in my opinion, as it isn't mainstream enough at the moment.

Hi, I've been a lurker for some time, but this is the first time I saw a post that I just had to comment on it. With the introduction out of the way...

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but this is a real, huge problem for ALL the PSP owners in my country, Mexico. Why? Because our version of PSN doesn't carry half of the content that can be found in the US. So now, as a PSP owner, I have to wait and wait to see if we are even going to have a release of this game this year. With no UMD, this becomes a deal-braker. Don't believe me? Just check this page full of complaints of people from my country:

http://www.sony.com.mx/sonypsblog/

And you know what is the worst of this? Nintentdo VC and Wiiware releases have been ON THE SAME DAY for the US and Mexico! Seriously Sony, why can't you do this for Mexico if Nintento can?

/end of rant

@MrSlippery:

I second that motion. "game collectors" went from guys who'll buy games and keep the clean boxes on the shelves (with the discs in binders) to retards that'll spend upwards to $90 for a physical copy of an old game that was mediocre-to-good to begin with for the PS2 on eBay.

Say no to more fucking useless plastic everywhere, just give me the option to back up my PSN games on my computer in case server shuts down or something and I'm happy!

Now this pisses me off! I was a huge PS fan, everything i owned was PlayStation and there was no competition in my eyes but over the past year I've come accept Xbox into my life because I'm finding that Microsoft is a lot more reliable then PlayStation. i was really looking forward to this game on PSP but once again Sony has ruin yet another potentially great experience not just for me but for many others as well. Thanks for nothing!!

Forget PS2 Backwards Compatibility, what I want is the ability to play PSP games on PS3!

There's actually a few games I'd love to play on the handheld, but I made my choice with the DS, and don't even play that enough to warrant getting another!

Badman on PSN sounds like a good idea; $20 is a very nice price if the game is the funny, clever and deep Dungeon Keeper variant it seems to be. While the lack of a physical product is always somewhat regrettable, it's by no means a deal-breaker. Anyone who's into purchasing games for the sole reason of enlarging his or her collection of plastic packages should seriously consider switching to a hobby more appropriate to that individual's particular fetish, such as stamp collecting or framing impaled butterflies...

Reading comprehension goes a long way. I didn't label it a flash game- I said it plays like a pretty good flash game. Regardless of whatever depth of content is offered, nothing about it presents itself as a game that someone would pay 20 dollars for, especially as a download-only title. And, for future reference, "deep" game mechanics and "good" games do not have any demonstrable correlation, it's just a buzzword.
