You know that Red Dead Revolver sequel that's been teased and rumored since 2005? Well, it's still alive and kicking -- it's called Red Dead Redemption, is being developed by Rockstar San Diego, and it's scheduled for a fall 2009 release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
According to Rockstar Games, who announced the game today: [Red Dead Redemption is] "set at the turn of the 20th century when the lawless and chaotic badlands began to give way to the expanding reach of government and the spread of the Industrial Age. The story of former outlaw, John Marston, Red Dead Redemption takes players on a great adventure across the American frontier."
The utilizes the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), the same technology used to power all of Rockstar's next-gen games, including Grand Theft Auto IV and Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Redemption features an open world, letting players explore frontier towns, prairies populated by wildlife, and more.
"The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plot lines in a massive, vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing," said Rockstar's founder, Sam Houser. "We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be."
Grand Theft Auto IV: Wild West Edition? Sign me up, pardner.
Hopefully this'll be a mix of the first game and GUN (which I know a lot of people hated, but I really enjoyed it).
so... Euphoria ragdolling confirmed?
slippery horses, confirmed?
As long as the second sequel captures Leone's style of story telling and mixes it with countless other westerns, this game is a guaranteed success.
Being open world with multiple frontier towns is only the sweetest icing on the most delicious cake.
Seriously, for anyone who hasn't played the first game: DO IT. That goes 10x to those who are fans of westerns in general.
massive boner!
I'm definitely interested . . .
Now if I could get a RAGE based Way of the Samurai clone . . .
He should get together sometime -stop
How about we go to the Saloon? -stop
The open world sounds cool, and a cowboy version of GTA sounds much better than any GTA they have ever made (actually fun and or interesting, imagine that! especially since they would have to change the A to H for horse), but what worries me about this open world talk is that it will definitely break away from the first. I loved how you played through the different arcs as different characters in Revolver, I hope they don't mess this up.
*applause*
YEAH
I never did get around to playing Red Dead Revolver. I guess I should if they are going to make a worth while series out of it. Cool!
Also, go Workman.
you are too clever buddy
I'm pretty damn excited for this. I think multiplayer has potential to be amazing/hilarious.
Hopefully, this game will have a boss with TWO cannon arms.
TITS. FUCKING TITS.
This was hands down my favourite game on the 360. The multiple characters were great, and it had some memorable bosses, like the garveyard duel with the guy who had a minigun in a casket.
also, the quick draws were ridiculously intense.
VATS style quick draw, but just slow motion, not a pause, open world, and the gameplay from the first. That'd be totally rockin'.
Fucking excellent. I will be there for this game on day one.
the first one may have been flawed, but it was a great rental back in the day
