Holiday cheer: Mario will call your parents with your Christmas requests photo

I;m actually not sure if this newest holiday move from Nintendo is downright genius or downright scary, but either way I'm sure it'll have an impact. It was announced today that you can visit http://mariowishlist.varitalk.com and check off Nintendo DS items that you want to see under the Christmas tree this holiday. After listing who the person is that you hope to get this gift from, they will receive a personalized call or email from Mario, letting them know that you hope to get a specific gift from them!

This really reminds me of being a kid -- handing my mom a very specific list of games that I wanted for Christmas, begging her not to deviate from it, and then somehow ending up with a copy of Friday the 13th for the NES despite all my pleading. WHY, MOM, WHY?

Of course, if parents have no idea who Mario is, they may be a bit befuddled as to why an Italian plumber is calling to tell them what their son or daughter wants for Christmas.

Nintendo's Mario Lends His Voice to Help Holiday Shoppers

If you want people to know what gifts you want for the holidays, you need to speak up. And who better to help you speak up about your love for Nintendo DS™ games than iconic Nintendo video game character Mario™ himself?

Starting today, people can visit http://mariowishlist.varitalk.com and check off the Nintendo DS items they hope to receive for the holidays. After users provide some other fun information, your friend, relative or special someone will receive a voice mail or e-mail with a personalized message from Mario about what Nintendo DS gifts you hope to receive.

To provide even more shopping support, Nintendo's holiday Web site is there to help both gift-givers and gift-getters streamline their shopping lists, by offering information about Nintendo DS systems and games. To check it out, go to http://giftcenter.nintendo.com. If you're the one doing the shopping, you can browse through the holiday Web site based on the type of gifts enjoyed by the person you're shopping for, such as the Mario fan, the music groupie or the puzzle fanatic.

But let's say you're the one doing the receiving. The holiday Web site will help you build a wish list and send it as a hint to your loved ones in an e-card with special holiday designs. This feature will be available through the end of December.

I guess this would be cool for a kid to do, but I always had fun cutting things out of the toys r us add and pasting them to construction paper with giant circles drawn around the stuff i had no chance in hell of getting.
This seems like it could be a good tool for evil...

"Hi (Friend)!

I saw these great gifts on Nintendo.com and added them to my holiday Wish List. I hope you can make my wishes come true!"

"Hello (Friend)!

I just thought you'd like to know I'm thinking of getting you these great gifts! I know you'll love them and have a blast playing with them; so don't forget who got them for you!"

and my favorite

"Hello (Friend)!

I'm thinking of these great gift ideas for you-know-who on our holiday shopping list. What do you think? Or we could keep them for ourselves!"

where do you send the phone call?

I did it as a joke for my wife. Listening to the preview of the message, I'm not understanding why they made Mario speak like my 4-year old..."him want these games."

Poor Mario. They make your console "casual-friendly", and by doing so, they took away your brains.

I'd prefer it if they got a recording of Travis Touchdown to do it.

I want to know how many of these are going to end up as comedy videos on YouTube.

@ king3vbo: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

But yeah, this seems weird. I sort of get the appeal for the younger crowd or parents who pay attention to games their kids like, but still...just sort of dumb and pointless.

This is awesome, and if I didn't hate Christmas and want to destroy it I might participate just for fun.
But I don't want anything for xmas.

Why is there no option for 'daughter' or 'son'? That's who's most likely to be asking for something for christmas, not 'grandmother' or 'amore'.
