Hit up our Twitter and win a free copy of Galactrix! photo

You know what's pretty much the best thing in the world? Free stuff. In fact, the only way you can improve on free stuff is free stuff you win FAST. Instant gratification. That's why Destructoid has decided to use the world's most popular instant social networking system to give away swag -- and in fact, we're going to try to do it once EVERY Friday. Wrap your head around that, if you will.

This Friday, we'll kick it all off by giving away four free Xbox 360 codes for Puzzle Quest: Galactrix through our Dtoid Twitter account. We will announce that we are ready to give one away four times during the day on Friday (times unspecified, of course -- you'll just have to watch and wait!). When we announce we have one to give, reply in message and say "I want it!". The first person to reply will win a code and we'll send it your way immediately via a direct message. You get a free game within a matter of minutes. Easy as that. Good luck!

I don't understand, Colette, send a message using Twitter? so "@dtoid I want it!"?

Were I not morally opposed to Twitter, I'd be all over this.

I really wish Destructoid would stop holding contests on one of the most asinine "trendy" bullshit sites on the net.Whats wrong with holding the contests here?

@T9X

Simply put from a networking/social perspective, Twitter is a great way for Destructoid to reach out to the entire Twitter community and gain valuable community members that they would not have gotten in-house.

Despite my disdain for Twitter, most websites use it as a successful social networking tool due to it's popularity. And there's nothing wrong with that.

It's more than that -- it's a viable way to run a complex site contest (Lord of the rings is a 1 week giveaway) while also giving away little things inbetween. We have contests/giveaways scheduled all the way through mid May on site and on twitter. Is this awesome? y/n

@T9X - we hold contests here, too. Feel free to enter those if you like!

Ashton Kutcher couldn't convince me to join that site, and unfortunately I don't think this will either.

Contests on the actual website: Good

Contests on other sites like Twitter and Facebook: Not so good.

Nice idea for a contest though.

Hey, I dig twitter, and I think that havig contests there as well as the main site can't hurt. For small giveaways it would keep the. So pages a tad bit cleaner, leavig too. For the larger contests.

And no, I'm not following Ashton or oprah!

You said that you had four codes to give away, but you only did three twitter posts for the contest. I suggest giving the fourth to the person who came in second on the last one. ;)

@Dreamsower in the post it says you get your code within minutes, so I'm calling BS on this contest.

It's a shot at a game for free, according to that twitter history thing I was the first post after the first entry and I didn't get a code immediately. I'm just gonna be patient and see what happens, this is FREE anyways.

I never realized instant gratification took so long. I guess this whole Twitter thing didn't pan out as smoothly as they had hoped.

competitions on twitter encourages user's to write 'first' comments, except 'i want it' instead. Is this some insightful commentary on our degenerate nature as gamers or is this about winning things and being on Twitter. Either way thanks a lot for all the opportunities Dtoid :)

As for the moral thing, i do not have a facebook account specifically for that same reason, the watch/control culture that it propagates, but twitter sounds like something reasonable i would join, so what is morally unacceptable about one-liner updates on the internet? sorry for being an idiot, but would like to know before i venture head first into this.
BlackSymbiote's Avatar - Comment posted on 04/25/2009 02:02

@Analitic The concept of Twitter (as far as I know) started off with the idea that you would follow your close friends' updates, so if they said "hey I'm at (insert restaurant/bar name here) come hang out" then you could just go meet up with them without having to make all kinds of plans.

Also there's the sense of being able to keep a little more in touch with people as far as day to day stuff goes. Kinda like how you just chat about nothing important with friends at school or work.

Now it's evolved into something sites like Destructoid can use to link you to new articles the instant they get posted. Or opportunities like seeing a live ustream broadcast of Alex Albrect playing guitar and singing with his gf once getting drunk. Fun times were had by all!

Just sign up, follow a bunch of friends or sites you like Dtoid or CNN or people like N'Gai Croal some movie star. I mainly use it to keep up to date on video game news. Just follow sites and people in the industry. You don't even have to post to it if you don't feel like it. It's just a toy after all. :)

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation of twitter, blacksymbiote, its precisely why i should do it, since i do not have a facebook account and have been ridiculed for doing so, by being asked 'oh but you have an email right?'

But yeah, if it is a fast way for social networking, and finding some of my old friends without invading anyone's privacy or theirs mine..then it should be fine.

What worries me is that some here are saying they refuse to join for moral objections and im interested in finding out what exactly do they mean by that...
