Hit the lights: First details on Guitar Hero: Metallica emerge photo

ScoreHero has the first details on Activision's upcoming standalone title, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and are you sitting down? It features the music of Metallica. No s**t.

Lame sarcasm aside, the package is an obvious mix of content, with a few surprises. For one, the game will feature a new difficulty for drums called "Expert Plus," which is being designed especially for people with a splitter and two kick pedals. Also on the drum tip, the game will offer up a new mode (or a "cheat" as ScoreHero calls it) in which you'll be able to play freestyle drums using Metallica drum sounds (which can sound like anything from pots and pans to Civil War cannons, I suppose).

The game will feature World Tour's create-a-song feature GHTunes, as well, with new tones from James Hetfield's ESP Truckers guitars to Tom Araya's (from Slayer) ESP Bass sound.

Like Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the game will feature a lot of goodies for fans including DVD-style content like photos, set lists, fan videos, rare live performances, and behind-the-scenes footage. Fans of VH1's "Pop Up Video" will want to check out "Metallifacts," which lets you watch performance with overlaid trivia pop-ups.

As for the soundtrack, so far it's looking like a dream for fans of metal. Metallica tracks like "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "Master of Puppets," and "Enter Sandman" have been confirmed. Also like GH: Aerosmith, music from artists who have inspired (or been inspired by) Metallica will be included, with tracks by Judas Priest, Samhain, Slayer, and ... Queen.

Confirmed song listing after the jump.

Confirmed Metallica tracks:

  • "Enter Sandman"
  • "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
  • "Fuel"
  • "Hit The Lights"
  • "King Nothing"
  • "Master of Puppets"
  • "No Leaf Clover"
  • "Nothing Else Matters"
  • "Sad But True"
  • "The Unforgiven"
  • "Wherever I May Roam"

Other artist's tracks:

  • Alice In Chains - "No Excuses"
  • Bob Seger - "Turn The Page"
  • Judas Priest - "Hell Bent For Leather"
  • Kyuss - "Demon Cleaner"
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Tuesdays Gone"
  • Mastodon - "Blood and Thunder"
  • Michael Schenker Group - "Armed and Ready"

Wow. Even though it's one song, I have to buy it now. Also, epic picture is epic.

OH GOD DAMN IT

I'm going to have to play this just for the Samhain track... me and my obsession with all things Glenn Danzig

Yay a Kyuss track, wouldn't say they're inspired by Metallica though... Eh.

Queen?! Oh yes. I might buy this eventually. It depends on what songs of course.

I'm with Covah, I'll probably be getting this based on Samhain alone. It'll be my first Guitar Hero since GHII...

I'm throwing in my "I'm with Covah"...Samhain? Seriously? I was already considering putting this on my must-have list, as well as making it the first GH game I've bought/played since GH1 (long story behind that...not getting into it here).

But the simple inclusion of one Samhain song pushed me over.

Scroll, it's not bands inspired by Metallica, but bands that inspired Metallica. So Kyuss inspired Metallica.

A lot of bands from Garage Inc., which makes sense.

I hope Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me make the cut. Damage Inc would be a lot of fun too.

As for inspired bands, I hope the Queen song is Bohemian Rhapsody (duh), but I'm sure it'll be a different one.

This will be a must buy for me unless they seriously screw stuff up. I have been wanting to play Master of Puppets and For Whom the Bell Tolls in GH/RB since GH1.

Watch the Queen song just be a non-cover version of "Killer Queen," since they already used it in the original Guitar Hero.

Seriously though, it boggles the mind how both Rock Band and Guitar Hero have managed to completely overlook Queen since GH1, when there are so many tracks they could be putting in, even as DLC.

I will hurt someone if they pull a Harmonix and not include Fade to Black. Such an awesome song to not be in this game, which as I mentioned earlier, would be something Harmonix would pull.

Harmonix picks awesome bands but then picks their bullshit songs. WTF. Still prefer RB though.

Well, I'm happy they're including new things into GHTunes. For me, that's a plus. Since it's part of the service, I'm wondering if songs created through GH: Metallica will be available to play through GH:WT. More than likely it will, but can't help to be a bit curious about it.

I'm thinking about getting it, but I want to see what else the game will provide.

Now if only they could tighten up the controls to GH2 or Rock Band tightness so I don't have to play a game looser than Pamela Anderson's vagina.

@Coldbrand

They could also start charting the notes in a more intuitive way that meshes more with the music, but I doubt either will happen :(

I want to kill whoever it is that bought the exclusive rights for Metallica.

I want to rip that person apart and then give all of these songs to Harmonix to make correctly.

No Leaf Clover?! FUCK YOU ACTIVISION!

Why the hell is everyone hanging on Metallica's dick? They've put out ONE good album in the last DECADE!

Seriously, check out Persuader , Dark Empire , Nevermore , Evergrey , Therion , and Sonata Arctica

P.S. we need a preview or something so we can better see if we fuck up our tags.

Hell yeah, a music game that actually supports double-kick in all it's songs. Not that 'll get to that level anytime soon, but it's nice to know that the option is there.

Plus Metallica = Awesome.

Wow, im not the hugest metallica fan but it seems theyve pretty much picked songs that i would have. Theyve got No Leaf Clover, thats me happy. And decent bands in the 'inspired' list, it may just have to be bought, despite how much i swore i would never buy stuff like this.

"For Whom The Bell Tolls"
"Fuel"
"Hit The Lights"
"Master of Puppets"
Bob Seger - "Turn The Page"
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Tuesdays Gone"
These six songs make this game an instant buy. Damn, i was hoping not to have to buy this game, and the inclusion of Queen? Holy Crap. I would also look for either Motorhead or Blue Oyster Cult, being as how there are already two artists from the Garage Inc. days. I would love to have Astronomy by blue oyster cult.
