High Voltage really does love that Infernal Engine photo

High Voltage, the studio best known for The Conduit and its two upcoming games Gladiator A.D. and The Grinder, has just gotten itself into a lifetime licensing agreement with Terminal Reality's Infernal Engine.

While the developer may have the Wii covered in terms of pure graphical might, High Voltage wants Terminal Reality's middleware for its foray into Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game development. To get an idea of what we're talking about here, look back at Ghostbusters: The Video Game to see what Infernal is capable of doing.

No offense to the hardworking guys and gals at Epic Games, but for once, it's nice to see something other than Unreal Engine 3 being adopted. Sometimes you just need a break from the same old same old, y'know?

Unreal Engine 3 is not always the answer...and like you said...every new engine is like a fresh breeze in the gamer and dev/designer world.

Hooray for graphically inferior PS3 ports of High Voltage games.

I loved the colors and lighting in Ghostbusters.

This is good to hear I suppose.

From what I can gather, the Infernal engine is a lot more streamlined than UT3, especially in the realm of texturing and model importation.
I guess each company has it's own development cycle to adhere to and it would seem that Infernal was best for them. I'd like to get a look at how it works myself sometime, I hate the UT3 engine.

I was really impressed with the engine in Ghostbusters. Especially with the way it handled the debris and framerates. I thought it was going to be all hype, but it lived up to expectations.

Good times, Ghostbusters was a pretty surprisingly solid game.

Umm... it's great and all that High Voltage is looking to make some higher rez graphics with the newer systems... but you know, they should probably get some art direction first. Being on a more powerful console won't make their graphics any less bland...
