High Voltage Software's Wii-exclusive co-op shooter The Grinder has been set free! As revealed by president Kerry Ganofsky in an interview with IGN, the studio plans to make its newest game a multiplatform affair. That's PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in addition to the already-announced Wii version.
Huge news, but not completely unexpected. Back at E3, our very own Jonathan Holmes heard straight from the source that if a publisher were to give High Voltage the money required to make The Grinder accessible to all, they'd be all over such an opportunity. And yes, I did reuse his picture. It's a damn fine image!
Don't walk away just yet! There's still stuff to talk about yet. IGN also scored a teaser trailer for the game, which is viewable here. And a release date! They've got one of those too: Halloween 2011. The Grinder was already on my radar, but I'd be lying if I said today's news didn't bump it up a few notches.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If they do what they did with Conduit (Everything. Was a hallway.) then I'll be skipping on The Grinder...
It was hell, and I was bitching about it.
Everyone on the fansite is fine with it now, most of us anyway. They have been listening to our ideas, HVS is kick ass.
Heres the link to the fansite (the one that HVS reads)

Theres a GREAT community, only thing, no fanboys allowed...
A game with more than a year before going gold and it already looks that good, I'm really digging it.
Let's hope the mechanics are solid and the level design is at least as interesting as Left 4 Dead (1) (which is unlikely at best).
Either way, I'd like to play it on the Wii, because I say IR aiming is way better than a second joystick. But at the same time, the online aspect will be WAY better on the other platforms.
Blast! I missed some quality entertainemt then! Well, I'm glad the community was able to settle it. You don't see that with other communities (Sonic rimshot).
Anyway, I'm going to give the fansite a visit. Thanks for the info.
Just don't be a fanboy, and everything will be cool, haha we don't like fanboys.
Most of us on there own wii's, but we aren't fanboys. As I own a 360 as well, and lots of people also have PS3's.
Just have fun! :D
They read all our emails, they put in our ideas from the game, they went BACK in development for grinder to put in our ideas.
Thats called a good fucking company.
You have to be a member to view the forums :P
So just sign up, it won't take more than a minute.
Also, they bought the infernal engine a little while back. Don't say they have "silly engines" when you don't know what your talking about.
They do make real games, and the grinder is going to kick ass. They are independent and have been for about 18 years. They haven't gotten there name out there enough yet. So don't expect them to have games like Fall out 3...yet.
Conduit was not a halo clone, how the hell was it? IT had to do with aliens...that were man made from earth. YAH A HALO CLONE.
Again, do your research and don't talk shit unless you know what your talking about.
Good luck, High Voltage.
I'm glad you took my comment so well. Most people would take it personally, so I have to commend you for that. Again, I'm glad you agree. If it's one thing I really dislike abut gamers is our tendency to compare completely different games, and it's good to see you don't want to compare, either. I'll join the community based on your attitude alone. If everyone else there is anything like you, then I'll enjoy my time there.
But been interested in this since it's announcement. added achievements and graphics being buffed for 360 = win.
does this have single player?
Two years is like the average development time for a game. Besides, the developer has to finish working on its other Wii title, Tournament of Legends, which is due out in May 2010. Anyway, it would appear that the Wii version of The Grinder is the lead platform.
Yeah, there is a single player mode. In fact, the online multiplayer mode is based on the single player mode according to the developer.
Also, the game will feature more customizable controller settings than the Conduit.
Damn. This will be tough.
Unless of course, if they put the Conduit controls out on the Arc. (Which would require something in the form of a nunchuck).
All the changes seem like a good move.
That said, let's see if this game is worth it on the Wii first, i could care less it is multiplatform but it better be good, if it's just another mediocre L4D clone/shooter i expect it to do even worse on the HD market. Also they better not drop the ball with polish on the Wii version for the developing of the HD versions, they need to prove the game is good when it comes out on the Wii.
"Silly graphics engines? Excuse me, but Q3 is the best engine and most powerful on Wii. Probably even better than Nintendos engines."
Who's being a fanboy now? have you SEEN SMG or MP3? The Conduit doesn't compare, even if it is the best G.E. then they have to give it better use.
Wow, would you like another sip of Kool-Aid? How is it not a L4D clone? Four people shooting down wave after wave of enemies. Hmmm it sure sounds, and looks exactly the same to me. Even HVS admits that its a clone of L4D. As a Wii exclusive this was intriguing, because it wasn't like anything else on the Wii.
You could even say that it fits on the PS3, because again there's no L4D on that system either. But as a 360 owner, all I have to say to HVS is. Sorry I'm too busy playing L4D2 to care about your cheap knock-off game and by 2011 L4D3 will probably be coming out. So I, and many others won't care about it then either!
It was made BEFORE L4D, it was made by HVS, it had 4 players hunting monsters...
Damn, I don't see you gamers don't know this stuff...I mean really
I'd like to see some great things out of this studio, because they have a good sense of control and the willingness to buck perceived limitations.
The Conduit was kind of a dog though, regarding art direction and storytelling. Competant, fun, and graphically powerful in a bunch of ways. But it felt... off in the execution, for better or worse.
Definitely looking forward to seeing what more they can do.
wow dude, you really have hopped on the hvs hype train early this time. i personally played hunter, and it wasn't anything like the preview material for grinder. also, it was a crap game, and a diablo clone. the conduit is NOT the best looking game on the wii, not even close. it looks absolutely horrible in pro scan btw. have you seen mario galaxy yet? as for the L4D comments, hvs said early on that grinder was directly inspired by L4D. so yes, grinder is going to be largely a L4D clone. lastly, the previous posts about conduit being a halo clone are spot on. anyone who has played both games can see that aside from the story, conduit tried to cop nearly all of it's gameplay from halo.
that all being said, i thought that conduit was the most disappointing game of this gen. i won't buy grinder if it comes on a solid gold disc. hvs is a b rate studio at best, who think they're going to make some cash off of derivative software. i bought into the hype once, but that won't happen again.
What about a FPS set in a Mario Galaxy style world, loads of bright colours and sunshine and rainbows...
Your comparing a 3rd Person action game, to a 4 player co-op online FPS. So I don't see how you think Valve copied HVS Hunter of the reckoning LOL. Where as this game is a 4 player co-op online FPS, just like L4D. So when the developers themselves tell me that they're copying L4D, I tend to believe them. Maybe that just me though, but I tend to believe whats right in front of my face!
yeah its nothing like L4D it has Bosses
Jesus christ, not getting mad at you or trying to flame you...but has the gamer world gone to hell?!
Do you guys really listen to Gamespot, Gamepro, and all of them? There all biased ass holes, no way in hell should you look to them for a good review...
i think theyll lose quite a bit of fanfare with this move, afterall, wii exclusivity was the only reason behind the hype of this thing and the conduit
no, thats not a good fuckin company
a good fuckin company doesnt makes good fuckin games, listening to the fanbase doesnt necessarily makes dev better, since they also must have a clear vision of their projects
