Hideo Kojima uses Obama Peace Prize to plug his game photo

Yesterday, I was legitimately shocked by news that Barack Obama had won a Nobel Peace Prize for being trendy and simply saying he'll do some things. Hideo Kojima isn't quite as cynical as me, however, and thinks that President McJesus is bringing us one step closer to his vision of a nuke-free world. He also thinks this while situation is a great opportunity to plug Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

"President Obama, who declared 'A World Without Nuclear Weapons' in Prague, has won the Nobel Peace Prize," states the MGS game designer. "Has the era at last started shifting? The start of the Peace Walker plan? I hope that comes to be. Peace will not walk to you. You must both walk towards one another."

Hate to break it to you, Hideo, but just saying that you'll do something doesn't mean that it'll actually happen, and the chances of a world without nuclear weapons is are slim to nil. I'm afraid that Kojima's world where nanomachines control everything and robot dinosaurs fire invisible missiles is about one hundred times more likely than Obama crafting this whimsical nuke-free world of love that everybody seems to think he's capable of crafting like some sort of magic Santa.

Saw this earlier. Haha, SO AWESOME! I hope it makes mainstream news, and MGS gets some extra exposure.

Also, google "NPT", folks: fascinating history there.

He's got a point though, even though I know you're just presenting this in typical debate-fashion. Its coo

But seriously, peace has to start somewhere, and President Obama has taken the first steps. You can rag on someone for saying they're gonna do the impossible, but think about what that makes you. We all play videogames, so it can't be hard to think of analogies to help illustrate if your thinking is positive, productive, or not.

Plugging a Videogame via news of the Nobel Peace Prize is about as legitimate as the nobel peace prize, as evidenced by Obama recieving it. Kudos to Hideo for making the most of the situation. And to think, i thought it was comically stupid that AL GORE won... dayummm. Milk it, Hideo. Milk it.

My stepdad gave me a pretty good theory on the award Jim. You're fairly political so gimme your words:

Stockholm was pressured to give Obama the award to stop him from putting more troops into the war and advance efforts in pulling troops out. After all he couldn't accept the award and further the war without taking MASSIVE opposition. So what happens? Well remember last week when he said he was gonna put more resources into the war? This week he retracted that saying he's putting withdraw talks back on the table.

I don't agree that Obama deserved the award and if that was Stockholm's intention then it's very underhanded. Especially with all the strife in the world. I'm taking Peace Studies and it's specifically upset my personal interest but if my stepdad's theory is true it's certainly effective.

I'm not ragging on him for saying it. I'm not ragging on Obama at all, actually. I'm ragging on the people who have basically created an Obama Myth whereby he is this savior of the world when he hasn't even had a chance to prove himself yet.

Point is, he's untested. He's said things and that's all he's done. In fact, the Peace Prize nominations ended after he had been in office for twelve days. So yeah, he hadn't even been President for two weeks before they gave it to him, which pretty much confirms he won the prize because "He's Obama and he's sooooo cool."

I love how if you talk about Obama and don't praise him (note that there were no insults against him) you get attacked for it.

Someday maybe he would have stopped wars and lowered the number of nukes, but god damn give the award to him when he actually does that stuff, not years before it just because he says he will.

By the way, I'm gonna make the cure for cancer and end all wars forever, award please.

the nobel peace prize has long been something of a joke, considering the number of war-mongers they've handed them out to - there are some decent recipients, but it's mostly a "politicians we like" club, there needs be no consistent sort of pro-peace policy or any of that junk.

... i've never much respected Kojima (apparently i'm one of the few, but i find him to be a *terrible* writer, though great game designer), so i'm not that surprised that he'd pop out with this sappy junk :P

Sorry (Added a blank post)!

Glad to see my favorite game designer likes Obama!

To get a little political, i think alot of people are getting misconceptions about Obama getting this award.

He didn't get it for achievements (which he hasn't done yet), he got it for being an inspirational figure and extraordinary EFFORTS at making peace.

The award came from his almost inspiring story of him winning the election and the message he carried through the election. As a black man myself, i would never even think a US would be ready for a black president (let alone vote for a black man) I'm pretty sure most of you on the list thought so too when his name became known. Plus, as Jim cited, the nominations started in January 2009, so i'm sure the judges are using 2008 to gauge his worthiness. All of you can check how many "Man of the year" award he received for 2008

Say what you will about his current achievements (which are lacking at the moment), but you can't deny that him (and his wife) already made history, and his story is inspiring people ALL across the GLOBE. That should be recognized.

If Nobel Peace Prize was for achievements, Al Gore should give his back (he didn't solve global warming).

It remains to be seen how he will handle Afghanistan, Iran & Iraq, but I support the president. He's trying the best he can.

So Jim, i respectfully disagree (but i like to hear people's thoughts on it)

"In fact, the Peace Prize nominations ended after he had been in office for twelve days."

I can't really argue that too much. However, as for him not doing anything, I do know that it not true. I read an article in my local paper about 3-4 months ago I believe, and it was showing how Obama had made visits to a region in the US where many power plants had been shut down by oil companies who were trying to keep alternate fuel industries down. Obama had these facilities opened up, and it was a very large number of them, stating that the US needed to either re-establish itself as a innovative and world leader in new fuel alternatives or be left behind. He's also started a program for college students of certain majors to have internships at the White House, something that's never been done before to my knowledge. Great quote-hyping aside, he did open those plants, they will generate a large amount of power, and he is backing up education, technology, and innovation. Those are important I reckon.

And as for the "ragging on him/what it makes you" part, I aim that at everyone because I see a lot of negative criticism about him, yet he hasn't done anything wrong yet. The truth is as of now, he doesn't have to make false promises anymore. He's already satisfied any selfish desires the man could possibly have by becoming history's first non-white, U.S. black president. At this point, I think yea, he could just be trying to be the best president in history or recent history period, but why do people not want that to happen? We need the best president in history or recent history right now if we don't want to follow the Romans into collapse.

You totally miss my point and minimize it into a single comparison between him and former great presidents.

Seriously makes me sad sometimes that my country often reminds me of my ps3. Plagued by fanboyism. Don't take my critisism personal kefkaesque since I'm basing it on 1 sentence of thought from you, but that thought is completely immature and you don't share the same view as most of the people within the science, math, engineering, art, and physics wards. Why are you focused on little words and ideas such as socialism? If and when we ever get it right, I doubt it will be because we gave it a name before realized we knew what needed to be done. Your thinking is 2-dimensional and you not seeing that just because things become more socialized it does not mean things are socialized.

Unrelated to kefka, I once read an interesting result conducted from some University's research I believe, it stated that 99.9% of people who had attained ph.D had become democrats within the U.S., implying that the more educated you become the more likely you are to become a democrat.

You ranted about how I'm immature and how my thought process is inferior to yours based off one sentence I said. And then you lead that up with a citationless internet statistic about how which political party someone is in is proof of intelligence. Good job there bro.

And I used the word socialism because I like the idea of personal freedoms (I'm a libertarian, not a republican as I'm sure you also assumed after you talked about how I'm less intelligent than you because of my opinions) and socialism is close to the opposite of that, but I guess that makes you superior to me huh.

I don't really understand what Obama has done to deserve such an award. He's played the apologist for America and placated some of the world's nastiest dictators. Saying "Nuke are bad, mmkay?" is a pretty easy thing to do, every president has more or less said this and sought to reduce nukes in the last few decades.

Or maybe we'll just give it to celebrities, like honorary...aaaah wait we already do this.
Either way, I am an Obama supporter, but I don't get what this award was for. Seriously, it was stupid. People may concoct elaborate schemes as to why this happened, but honestly...it happened, it was dumb, blah blah.
My hope is that earning this award pushes Obama to work harder in accomplishing what he said he would.
