Hideo Kojima likes Assassin's Creed and violence with consequence photo

Assassin's Creed producer Jade Raymond recently interviewed crazy genius Hideo Kojima for Famitsu magazine, discussing of course the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4 and violence in videogames. Kojima had some very interesting things to say on the latter:

"I don't think there are many games that tackle violence head on. When you hit someone or inflict pain, faces get disfigured for example, and I want to make games that show that sort of thing. If you don't see the pain, you can't understand what you've done, and you'll pass through battles without taking responsibility for your actions. I don't want to ignore that. I want players to think, even if it's just a little, about what violence and war are."

A noble endeavor, but of course we mainly play games to escape the horror of real life and to act without consequence. That said, deep and intelligent games that actually make you think about troublesome issues like human violence should certainly be encouraged as well, and Hideo is exactly the kind of opinionated madman to make it work. Speaking of opinions,  Kojima had nothing but good things to say about Jade's own game:

"I've got to choose my words carefully so that I'm not misunderstood, but I think there are fewer developers around today who think about making a good game. As a creator, I find that sad, but when I see teams like the Assassin's Creed team it gives me confidence. I want Assassin's Creed to sell well."

The game is certainly selling well, but opinions on the game are divided and Assassin's Creed is a very polarizing title within the gamer community. An endorsement from Hideo himself, however, is high praise indeed. Well done Jade and Ubisoft!

Kojima is not a god! yet! xD

"Metal Gear's Creed: Without the ASS" edition?

And somehow somewhere in a distinct galaxy someone will connect this to MGS4 coming to the 360 rumor. Before anyone does, Please End Your Life. :D

I went into Assassin's Creed with lowered expectations, but what I found was something I genuinely enjoy. So far I haven't experienced any technical issues, and yes, it can be repetitive at times, but it really stands out in my mind as one of the most original games I've played in the last five years on any system, both in the gameplay and plot departments. Here's hoping that development team can come up with a rich and satisfying sequel, or, *gasp*, another highly original concept.

I think that mixed reviews keep the gamers on their toes. It gives us reason to go out rent or possibly by this game. When the quality is in the air, and you you have some love it, hate it going on... you open up a chance for great conversation on what make a good game great. also cocks?

I really enjoyed the 7 or-so hours I spent playing Assassins Creed, although it definitely could have been better.

Assassin'e Creed is an awesome game.......If you can look past the abyssmal controls, and questionable AI.

Actually, Fuck it. Assassin's Creed was hopelessly dissapointing.
Kojima must be a God if he can look past that games terrible mediocrity.

I loved Assassins Creed. Other then the unskippable cut scenes it was a great game IMO.

Assassins Creed is an awesome game. I personally loved the controls and the feel of the game and I can only hope a sequel comes out soon.

As for what Kojima said; with him at the helm of a game that would have faces distort and change it would inevitably end up being beating faces only to see them either turn into ape escape monkeys or that person's face leaking skittles or some weird shit that doesn't make sense.

I'm enjoying Assassin's Creed. I'm not afraid to say it. Altair is the coolest video game character this year.

I just bought it recently and while it has it's problems, its still not a 7/10. people have way to high standards for games these days.

I'd give it a 8-9/10, defenatly not a 10/10

Whats wrong?

Bad AI
Controls
NO Rumble!

What's good?

Complete immersion into the world
Hundreds of NPCs in one area
Exploring the world.

Holy crap, there are more positive comments for Assassin's Creed here than I thought there would be. I thought the love/hate factor was evenly distributed.

Although theoretically I don't hate it. Just the horrible controls.

I don't think the controls were horrible at all. I liked that they weren't GENERIC FREE ROAMING GAME CONTROL GTA RIPOFF SCHEME #247.

Pfft. Kojima simply wants to get in her pants, just like the rest of us. And I can’t blame him.

If numerical scoring wasn't based on a scale of 7-terrible/10-pretty good, 7/10 would be a pretty solid score for Assassin's Creed. The game had a lot of great ideas, but they weren't executed as well as they could have been. That doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable. It was a good game. Not phenomenal, but certainly good.

I love how someone can think a game they say has crap controls and AI, is worth an "8-9/10". What has the gaming media has done to people!?

I thought it was a cool game, more interesting than most 3rd person action games I play. Hideo Kojima has some cool ideas, just hope it doesn't make me wanna barf every time I melee someone in the face in Halo 4 and their face mask breaks, with eyeballs and teeth popping out of their head.

kojimas words about violence dont surprise me since Metal Gear is one of the few games that makes it fun and rewarding to actually avoid conflict.

Assassin's creed is a great game as a stepping stone to future game endeavors, though it does have its definite faults. But, take the good of Assassin's Creed and mix it with the good of God of War, and you have the best action/adventure game to date with the possibility for a high level of replayability if done correctly.

Fuck, can we stop with that Goddamned comic? It's fucking disgusting and not even remotely funny. I just want to punch a child, or something.

I like Assassin's Creed, or what I've seen of it, at least. I'll all for "violence with consequences," so long as it's not every darn game.

I loved this game. It could have been much better though. It had a Zelda meets stealth/MGS feel to me. It was weird. But good.

And it's a beautiful thing.

Assassin's Creed did sell well, its still a piece of shit though, good ideas, horrible execution, sorta like the MGS series in general.
