Hidden Mortal Kombat 'Kourt' for NBA Jam unearthed photo

As it stands, Midway’s arcade basketball titles NBA Jam and NBA Hangtime didn’t need much help appealing even to fans of non-sports game. The pick-up-and-play, simplified game mechanics were easy enough for babies to understand, but some strange game design magic made it more enjoyable than it should have been.

What could have made it better? A hidden Mortal Kombat “Kourt,” complete with a spine that held up the backboard, a skull hoop, and a decapitated head for the basketball. But according to Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boone (who revealed the image on Twitter) the NBA said "no" to the hidden “kourt,” which was set to be an unlockable in one of the home ports of NBA Jam/NBA Hangtime.

“Would've been fun!” Boone says.

No arguments there. See it in all its glory after the jump.

The graphics seem rather awful, but it would be a FUN mode :-)

That would've been awesome, but they said no. Those guys are no fun at all.

I really loved NBA Jam. If someone wanted to release it on XBLA, PSN, and whatnot, I wouldn't complain. Just saying. Make it happen, powers that be.

@kuaza
throw in updated rosters and Mii/Avatar support for the create a character. Does Midway/WB still have the rights to NBA Jam still? If not, 2K or EA need to snap those up.

This is definitely relevant to me as I got NBA Jam from my Auntie's for my SNES just tucked away in a box :]

This level would have made an awesome game even awesomer. Especially because I was like 13 when NBA jam was popular.

MAN KOURT

Yeah, I would buy NBA Jam with the original rosters on XBLA in a heartbeat, however unlikely that may be.

I'd probably prefer the original rosters, actually, just because I don't follow basketball anymore, and I wouldn't know who anyone was!

Which team or pair of guys was your favorite? I always went with Orlando - Penny Hardaway and Nick Anderson. I guess you could say the Magic was my...JAM?

That's right.

Does anyone have a time machine?

Here's my plan: We go back to the early 90's. We tell ourselves that NBA Jam had a hidden MK court mode. Our younger heads explode and then we disappear into oblivion!
