Hey Nintendo, secrecy isn't always such a great thing photo

I suppose president Satoru Iwata already did his best to apologize to jaded gamers over Nintendo's less than impressive showing at E3, but it appears that he may want to extend those apologies even further.

According to several third-party developers that approached Game Informer at the recent trade show, the Wii's lack of storage space isn't Nintendo's only problem at the moment. Somehow, they forgot to include those outside of their inner first-party circle in their plans to create the MotionPlus add-on for the Wiimote.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that this is a massive hindrance to third-party games taking advantage of the peripheral anytime soon. It's just an opinion, but Nintendo might want to stop counting their cash for a moment, and rethink the long- term plans of the Wii. MotionPlus was the only exciting news to come out of the Nintendo camp during E3, and to see its potential squandered at the onset is the biggest possible shame Nintendo has brought on itself in a long time.

Hahaha, alright, that was just dumb. Why are all three companies so stupid this generation? I have a Wii mostly because it has different games than the PC/PS360, but, to tell the truth, none of this generation's systems compares to the PS2 or the SNES in terms of general generational mastery.

I'm so happy I built a gaming PC. I know PC gaming gets a bad rap these days.. but there are so many options!

Thats stupid and smart at the same time. Stupid because you're fucking over third party devs at utilizing it properly. Smart it gives Nintendo a head start with it in order to bring out games that utilize it fully and set the bar. Nintendo has done that with the DS and the Wii, for a while there on both platform, first party nintendo games were the only things that were actually good.

I just noticed something. All those Wiimote condoms that Nintendo had to give out for free? They won't fit anymore if you use the Wii MotionPlus, and it looks like they've already got a new condom designed. Looks like we get more free condoms!

Euughh.

I know what it's like to be working on something, only to realize a better option was always there (albeit hidden) that could have made the product better and more in line with what the development team wanted in the first place. Sucksville!

Are we EVER going to get to have lightsaber duels with our Wii-motes? That was at least half the reason I ever initially thought the Wii was cool.

Third parties don't usually jump on peripherals straight away because you are splitting your install base. Although this has the words "Nintendo" and "Wii" on it so I'm sure sales won't be an issue.

I'm wondering how they are going to deal with the issue that some people aren't going to have the additional motion sensor. They definitely might end up unnecessarily segmenting their market. Doesn't the motion plus come out in March? I would think that would be enough time to change development for it.

Its a tough one, I guess. If the deal didn't pan out, then you've have thrid parties sitting there waiting for a go ahead. If you have people starting out planning, and the tech deal doesn't pull through, then that's a process of planning all over again, or scrapping projects.

But, they are, as stated in the conference, shipping out dev kits for it already. I think announcing it without some third party titles attached was a bad idea. Waiting until TGS, after companies at least have time to plan around the tech, might have been a better move for them?

I'm just hoping the reason we haven't heard more about Red Steel II is that Ubisoft is actively re-evaluating/reworking to account for Motion Plus

Yea, half the people i talked to making wii games were caught off gaurd when i asked if they were trying to work in motionplus since they'd never fucking heard of it until the show.

Of course Nintendo's announcement is a major hindrance to 3rd parties using the MotionPlus anytime soon. And that's because it isn't coming out for another 9 months.

"God I hate all 3 consoles."

Yeah, crap like this comes out like once every couple days about one of the consoles, yet PC gaming is declared dead about once a week. :-/

It would have been nice to give them a heads up before hand so they could have shown off more games than Wii Sports Resort that used the damn thing.

They could've gotten a head start by developing the games with the technology and once it was finished give it to third parties. And announce it once they have 3 or 4 games planned. Way to sell a single peripheral for a single game Nintendo! Oh, wait...
