Hey Mommy Bloggers, help market PlayStation Move! photo

Are you a “Mommy Blogger”? You know, a mom who has a blog and you write about mommy things like, uh… shopping, coupons, and other cliché mom-related crap? Well Sony’s looking for you!

Social media sponsor website Izea has put out a “casting call” for qualified Mommy Bloggers looking to both try out (and presumably) pimp Sony’s upcoming motion controller online.

“Do you feel like you just don’t have enough time in your day,” goes Izea’s Move sponsorship pitch, “time to spend with the family, and time to squeeze in that much-needed exercise? Look no further your solution is here!”

Judging from the comments on the site, moms are eating it up! “That system looks amazing,” says one. Another comments “It is so hard to find fun stuff that a 7-year-old and a 17-year-old enjoy doing together. Plus, it would make great blogging fodder.” One thinks the “graphics are sweet.”

Yet one daddy blogger laments that it’s not an opportunity aimed at men; according to a reply from Izea employee Ashley Edwards, “the advertiser’s only looking for females.”

The campaign starts in early September, so keep your eye on your favorite mommy blog for family-centric impressions of Move. Early September is also reportedly the timing for a nationwide hands-on campaign at retailers like Best Buy and Walmart. PlayStation Move ships to stores on September 19.

This made me laugh like Santa Claus.

Also, I'm totally forwarding this to my wife.

hmmmm... do my adopted PAX kids count? (I got 3 of them!)... or what about my cats? Can a husband count as a 2 year old?

... and for the record, I don't really think that "social marketing" works all that well. I tend to ignore (and even detest) people that write about a product because they are being paid to demo it in any way. It's nice to see Sony finally thinking of marketing Move to women... but this doesn't seem to be a good way to do it. Why don't they just include a few women in their Move advertisements on TV... games like that boxing game might be quite popular with women.

@Indiana Jones:

I wasn't mocking it, and I fully expect Microsoft to do the same thing (if it's smart).

Quit "mommy blogging" and spend more time with your god damn kids! I'm sure they'd appreciate that more than some random internet asshole reading the shitty advertising on your godforsaken blog that nobody gives half a fuck about.

Mommy bloggers get me all riled up, apparently.

@ Nick Chester - The ones that are responding are the people who are interested. They have to be positive to be picked, and they want to be picked or else they wouldn't have commented.

Although it feels... a little unreal. I don't mean that as a statement of awe, but rather something seems off. Maybe I'm just too pessimistic to expect that much sequential optimism from any group.

"Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure you wouldn't be mocking it if it were Microsoft's idea."

It was a great idea, back when Nintendo came up with it in 2006, before the Wii came out. My god is Sony really going to copy Nintendo right down their viral marketing campaign? Can Sony ever come up with a original idea for themselves? I guess they don't have to, when they can just take everyone else's ideas instead!

If Sony were smart then they would try aiming all this at a more gamer oriented audience, since you'll be able to use move for games like heavy rain and resident evil 5. Why bother going after the same audience that wii's tightly had control of for the past 4 years.
