For once, gamer girl boners aside, I really just wanted to thank all of our readers, writers, contributors, tipsters, lurkers, forum spammers, and future bloggers for all of the support you've shown Destructoid. Look at that damn Alexa chart up there and take a bow. We've come a long way, ladies. A "Whoa Bundy" is definitely in order. Let me hear one from you in the comments.
As most of you know, Dtoid is run completely by a community effort of independent video game bloggers backed by the credit cards of two guys in Miami with other full time jobs. If it wasn't for the community effort, we'd be nowhere ... but because of you, we've become just as big as other people in the industry run by million dollar corporations, and made it without any funding or donations. I could never do anything right again in my life, I'd die a happy man. This moment was enough.
One reason I've brought this to your attention is to give you an idea of how many people will soon be reading your blogs when we launch this feature of Destructoid later this week. Our once obscure little club reaches millions now. Blows my mind. We've rewritten the book on what it means to be a video game journalist. These guys are read as often as those other guys now, so go smoke your college degrees. Warcraft fart jokes FTW! Funny, we're not even a year old yet.
The other reason is strictly business. So what am I going to do with all this success? Should I sell out? Hell no. Here's my plan: give the love right back to the community. If any industry business faces are reading this, Destructoid is looking for advertisers so we can start giving away Wiis and PS3s *every week* sometime in 2007. Once a day as soon as we can afford it. I'm dead serious. I owe the community more than one a month. There's too many of you now!
So what's it gonna take? We need some forward-thinking companies to buy ads from us so we can turn that money into prizes for the community, and help me finally pay the writers that contribute here.
So hear me out business faces -- I'm now offering a $3 CPM -- 70% cheaper than anyone else on than chart. Email me at niero@destructoid.com. Let's do this. Make it clap.
Awesome to see this. I love being a part of this ever growing community. Best place on the net as far as I'm concerned.
Can't wait to see what awaits the future of Dtoid. Something tells me it's all sunshine and roses. And robots.
Stick it to the man.
Do us a favor though and use some of the money to replace those rags Robert calls clothes.
I leave this up to you Niero, being from Miami, you know about threads.
If I had a company I'd be buying ads left and right. Hopefully though, if everything turns out right, I will soon!
I... I think I'm going to cry. Those numbers are beautiful.
Can't wait to see what the future has in store for this place.
The hell you say...
Seriously, we all fucking love it here. Viva los robots!
With complete honesty I have to say that I love this site. Not just because of the witty banter, actual news, and the people, but because we, the readers, are actually involved in it. It really lifts my heart to think that we could have come so far is such a short time. Just five months ago I joined this site and everyday since I've checked and rechecked the front page, eagerly awaiting the next update.
Niero, you sir are a god.
Took me forever. Final boss was so f*cking hard.
We need complimentary T-shirts and thongs for all registered forum members.
You being from Miami and all, thongs seemed most fitting...
As for needing advertisers... What's your client base looking like? Any need for waste processing equipment ads?
We make boxes that store and process poo. Yes really. Makes my marketing position all the more entertaining when poop jokes become sales pitches.
I'm just kidding, y'all make my d-list easily.
Nice website, hope your Miami backers get you folks something nice for Christmas, or you chumps will nick my Dtoid contest win, drinking rum+eggnog playing MY PS3 on a beach somewhere in the Keys while I freeze my ass off trying to find one!
Niero, you are the man. The reason you guys are a successful as you are (and I am sure everyone realizes this) is because everything is genuine... no filler, no bs fanboy nonsense, no mainstream "joysuq-esque" bias... just real news, quality articles, and of course robots (who doesn't love robots). Keep up the amazing work and best of luck with everything.
PS I can't wait for the community blogs. =D
Now maybe we can break the real blog/MB barrier and start facillitating actual conversations between people..... Nah prolly not.
Way to go though.
Seriously though, thanks everyone for the support. It's a dream come true for us. With Ron's help we even got passes to CES in 2007; it's on like Donkey Kong.
Whoa Bundy!
Congrats Neiro & crew. Dtoid 4TW!
I noticed you have a bunch of Canadabots, you should try talking to some of the Colleges teaching video game design up here, job sites, etc.
Big video game market here, I work for the Canadian subsidiary of BestBuy, so marketing isn't done at store level, but I've mentioned adspace before, and BestBuy just released impressive earnings citing strong video game sales, although it is Christmas. Anyway good luck!
Destructoid keeps it trillllllll
New Clipse? I love that shit and I'm not even in this rap game.
dtoid pwns!
I followed Summa over here. Damn glad I did.
WHOA BUNDY!
Greatest gaming site ever
keep it up guys and gals!
DTOID FTW!
Screw that... you sit on your couch and play video games damn it! It was what you were born to do. If I ever catch you spending spare time outside, I am going to duct tape a DS (and not a white DS... a CORAL PINK DS) to your hands and force you to play Nintendogs as punishment! Just kidding, keep up the good work.
And just because I love doing it... Whoa Bundy!
Great site made even better by the inclusion of early 90's sitcom catch phrase.
whoa.
Cool stuff wee´re about to pwn joystiq :)
Or to go oogle hot chicks in bikinis.
Which episodes of MWC did you see?
If it were any where Marcy was naked or screwing Jefferson, then it struck you as blind as it did Al.
for the record... the 'whoa bundy' isnt a nazi salute (as the pic might suggest)... they all put their hands in the middle, then raise them up triumphantly (while yelling 'whoa bundy'). Classic MWC... it was on alot of episodes, damn what a great show.
@Labomba's "Dtoid stole their bikes" hahaha
i can't imagine my life in 2007 without dtoid n existence. why to shape all our future's Niero. we love you!
