Heroic Map Pack now free plus a look at the next three new maps for Halo 3

     DLC

First off, the Heroic Map Packs have now become available for free. The Heroic Map Pack contains three maps including one map that allows you to rearrange it however you wish. Now all you people that were too cheap to spend some cash or smart enough to know not to waste your money can enjoy these levels. Once you get into Stand Off, get the sniper and zoom in on the moon for a surprise!

Anyway, now that those maps are free, it's time to put focus on the next three new maps coming out in the Legendary Map Pack. Most of you have no doubt already seen Ghost Town and Avalanche by now. If not, Ghost Town is a newly designed map based off the first part of the single player campaign in Halo 3. It looks to be good for a mid size team battles and objective games such as One Bomb and One Flag.

With Avalanche, it's a remake of Sidewinder, one of my favorite maps ever, from Halo 1. This map is finally doing something none of the other maps in Halo 3 have done by including the Hornet and Scorpion Tank. The map is huge with lots of vehicle support, weapons and equipment all over the place. I wasn't planning on wasting $10 again but Sidewinder might really just be worth it.

Finally, the last new map was revealed today. It's called Blackout and is a remake of Lockout from Halo 2. The map is set in an Arctic installation and looks like you can easily fall of the map from any point of the map.

The three new maps will be out April 15th for 800 Microsoft Points. Think these three maps are worth another $10 or are you planning on waiting for these maps to go free too?

Sidewinder was definitely one of the best maps in Halo 1, and a friend of mine thinks Lockout was THE best map in Halo 2.

I'll hop on and download the Heroic pack for free now, and maybe I'll actually play some more.

I'm pissed that they made the Heroic pack free already.....I thought it'd be a much longer wait (like, the end of this year). I've hardly even played the new maps. D:

I swear, if it wasn't my friend's copy, I would have sold off Halo a LOOONG time ago and still be playing CoD4 right now. T_T

Maybe, CTZ. Maybe.

These maps should be free. Honestly.

kinda pissed Heroic is free already too.

also kinda pissed that 2 of the "new" maps are just remakes.

i'd rather they just touched up (not remade) a BUNCH of the old maps and found a way to get them into Halo 3 for like, say, $20.

in my map packs i'd like at least 2 new ones please thanks.

(that said, i'm still buying it because i'm a sucker)

Awesome, can't wait. I hadn't played Halo for months, probably since TF and COD4 came out, but now Im getting back into it and I'd actually forgotten how much fun it was.

yes free maps, now lets get circuit city to drop halo 3 to like $30 for a week and I am there

I'm so excited about this map pack. The last one was okay, but they were about as lackluster as the rest of the Halo 3 maps. Functional, yes, but not as exciting or interesting as they first appear.

This pack, however, I'm digging. Lockout and Sidewinder are two of my favorite multiplayer maps... from ANY game, really. And I've been longing for a nighttime map for a while, too. This, I would pay $10 for, even though that's still too much.

Also, CTZ, the second photo in the gallery is of H1's Sidewinder, not Avalanche. Bungie put it up as a comparison shot.

I'm so pissed I just paid $10 for those first 3 maps and now I'm going to have to do it all over again for these much better looking maps.

I"m happy as hell they are free. I mean they told you all they were going to be free. Patient people won out on this one :)

I lost interest in halo 3 a lot faster than I did 2.

Personally, $10 for three maps is a steal.

I just checked my Halo 3 stats, and I've easily spent over five hours on each of the Heroic maps (total of over 15), and note that that's an underestimation. At $3.33 per map . . . that's coming in way, way cheaper than a movie.

I guess it depends how much Halo you play. Hell, I don't even play as much Halo as I used to and the maps are still a great deal for me.

When all is said and done, I'm super excited for this map pack. Sidewinder & Lockout absolutely rock, so this map pack should kick ass.

They're supposed to be free but MS wants you to pay.

And I'll buy em, I have a big enough group of people that I play with and we're all buying them.

@Darkjad
No, that's not really a good deal. MS just wants to rape Halo's rabid fanboys for every penny they have. I suppose I can't entirely blame them. Fanboys are easy to rape. I like Halo, and I like the DLC, but $10 for 3 maps is not a good deal. If it were any other game, there would be much rage from the internets. I believe Bungie has, more or less, apologized for it. (They have no say in the pricing.)

I don't care what anybody says, Guardian is pretty much Lockout already, so why the Hell would we need another Lockout right now? Besides, I thought Bungie didn't want to remake a bunch of maps, so why is 2/3 of the "new" stuff old? If they're going to be remaking a lot of maps I'd much rather see a remake of WaterWorks, my favorite Halo 2 map...

As someone who knows Lockout inside and out and excels on the map, I can tell you that Guardian is most definitely NOT Lockout. It has a similar build, size, and feel, but it is not even remotely the same map. Blackout, however, looks to be an exact replica of Lockout, excluding the finer details.

If I had made a list of a couple maps to be remade, Sidewinder and Lockout would've been on that list. Other maps on that list include a true Blood Gulch/Coag remake (not Valhalla), Headlong, Hang em High, Rat Race, Prisoner, Turf, and a couple others that I can't remember at the moment.

Hey Bungie... remake all the old halo maps!

it would only be right, after all halo3 was a rehash of halo2 which was a rehash of the brilliant original halo.

Why the hate for the Heroic map pack? Frankly, I've had more fun with those 3 maps than any of the 11 sub-par maps that game packaged with the damned game
