As you have no doubt heard, a brand-new Mortal Kombat game is coming in 2011. Usually an announcement trailer tells you very little about the game, so it's surprising to see this video reveal not only a bunch of characters like Shao Kahn and Raiden, but plenty of gameplay too!

I'm no huge fighting game fan, but I've always had a soft spot for Mortal Kombat and this trailer makes it look pretty cool. What do you reckon? Yay or nay? Fatality or Friendship?

BUT, to compete with how AWESOME SFIV is, MK will have to do something outstanding....Much more than just offer some 2d fighting for people other than classic MK fans to care.

I'm not a really a fan of the graphics, it's either not realistic enough, or it needs to be in a different style.

Lastly and more importantly, there better be plenty of blood and gore.

Is it April Fools? What is in that trailer that people like so much? This is the same game as the last 5 iterations. They are using animations from a PS2 era game for gods sake. Its downright lazy! Even if you liked the PS2 era MKs, your still looking at a game that is doing the same exact thing it did back then. I'm not saying these games should be doing anything new, but these games are like the Dynasty Warriors of the fighting genre. They give you the same characters, some of them clones of each other, with the same 10-15 moves, with the same engine, and the same animations, and apply a new coat of paint in the form of prettier graphics and shit it out as if its a new game.

This series, more then any, needs a reboot. You all have Sonic symptom, the lot of you are getting excited and you're just going to be disappointed when you realize you paid $60 for maybe 1 hour of fun before you realize its the same god damn game.

Hmm. Other than a couple brief skeleton shots and a sword through the chest, that seemed almost T rated, which I'm not a fan of. (Let's be real: the gore was always MK's biggest draw.) Granted, we didn't get to see how that hat-saw move played out, but if it didn't end with Sub-Zero literally split in two, I'll be very sad :'(

Mortal Kombat needs a reboot badly -- there were some rad as hell character designs floating around for something that never made it off the ground (I remember seeing a pic of Scorpion whos suit was yellow from being stained with some demon blood shit on the blog of the artist who did them) and Id like to see THOSE. The MK style really needs to be changed up; these character designs reek of late 90s/early 00s.

otherwise, i think this looks pretty sweet.

Hell--to the--FUCK YES!

DAY ONE PURCHASE!

Also, motherFUCK the haters. If you don't like Mortal Kombat, something is seriously wrong with you.

This will be in my top 3 most played games alongside SSFIV and Tekken 6. (I bought MKvDC but that was just to support MK, I forsee actually playing this one. Like, a LOT)

Looks like classic MK with Tag Battles... could be an awesome addition. They just better have everyone. After playing UMK3 and the others that had every character from every game to that point, it just sucks when they only include half of them.

Funny how people sucked Capcom's dick for returning to Street Fighter's roots with SFIV(which is basically SF2.5) yet people are shitting on Ed Boon for returning to MK's roots with MK9. I know it's just the haters though, because any true MK fan will tell you the best Mortal Kombat in terms of the complete package, was MK2. So MK2.5? Yes please! And in 2.5D?

DAY ONE.

A little disappointed by the look of it. I'm not a huge fan of the series but I'd be more inclined to check it out if they slapped on a fresh coat of paint and tried a different visual style.

Looks like a prettier version of the earlier games. I'll probably rent it out of curiosity or just watch a fatality compilation video on youtube.

@RichardBlaine Have to agree, there also seems to be a bit of polish really needed on the animation they seem a little unnatural.

You know what would have been a nice style, using real people. That would have been unique.

Anyone here's hoping for some nudity fatalities!

Can't see the trailer, so I won't comment on this iteration, but I've never much liked the series. All the characters controlled all stiffly and I'm convinced the only reason anybody plays them is for the blood. Which is why MKvDC didn't go all that well. It was simply less graphically violent. It had the most polished gameplay of the series so far, I'll give it that, but the fact that they squeezed out a game with the MK name on it and a T rating put a lot of people off.

If a game can't stand up on gameplay alone, like Mario, Devil May Cry, or Halo can, then all that extra style and shiny new coat of paint don't mean much.

If this game turns out well, great. I like fighters, and having another good one is always appreciated. But unless this game breaks the cycle of having JUST enough gameplay to justify buckets of blood, I'm not buying.

It looks super stiff.I guess the character animation is still in development, but honestly it doesn't look like there is anything fluid about the characters' movements at all. That's kind of a turn off for me.

It looks okay, a little too similar to the previous iterations but if they can capture that glorious, over the top silliness that made the classic games so much fun it might be worth a look.

I've never been fan of this serie and I only remember when the first episodes came out on the snes and genesis how terrible the reviews where, terrible animation, crappy gameplay etc. The only thing about it was the gory element everyone was talking about.
Blah... anyway uh?

wow. it took them 15 years to realize that all people want is Mortal Kombat 2+3 in 3d. they seem to be taking the Street Fighter 4 route, with 2d fighting, classic stages, classic costumes.

I would actually consider playing this, and I haven't touched MK since it was on the SNES.

To people commenting on the character animations: get used to them, they're lifted straight from MK vs DC and earlier 3D MKs. They've always been content to reuse that stuff no matter how awful it looks. Since people only play the games for the 3 second animations at the end of a match, why waste time and resources working on anything else?

Wow, that fatality, near the end of the video, is brutal! If Boon and company can capture the magic of the first three Mortal Kombat games, this game will be solid!
Also, hope you can perform Babality and Friendship finishing moves. =)

I honestly think that we need a new fighter instead of bringing back the same games over and over with a few new characters and always CRAPPY endings. So we got what, Mortal Kombat 9 now, King of the Fighters 2192 and Super Street Fighter 4 alpha turbo 9000 edition.

The main reason I'm not going to buy this or support it is because it's UNORIGINAL, its been beat to death, like how I refuse to buy another Street Fighter. I believe we ALL need a fresh start on fighting engines.

Looks so much like every single Mortal Kombat to ever come out. With a slight improvement in the graphics. Other than that, this does nothing for me. I'm sure many folks will be all ZOMG about it, and I'm happy for them. Different strokes for different folks.

I wish they would just do an HD remake of MK 1. I sank so many quarters and hours into that bad boy. That's all I would really need of MK. All this stuff about having to go to the NEXT EXTREME and being even crazier and bloodier than before is lame to me. It's like the commercials you hear on the radio for night clubs and car dealerships with their fake excitement.

Ok 2 cents put in.
