Here's the new cast of Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes

Jonathan and Tony were able to play some Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes at PAX Prime 2013, including testing out guest characters in the new cooperative mode. The original release on Xbox 360 was tremendously fun in that familiar masochistic way, and based on how this video went, I'm utterly convinced co-op will be the way to go.

There's fun to be had, even in death. Nicalis' Tyrone Rodriguez was there to tell us about the new characters -- there are going to be more than a dozen in the final version, with varying abilities -- and offer a bit of moral support. Eventually, they brought Tyrone (and PlayStation's Shane Bettenhausen) on to show us all how 1001 Spikes is done. Dibs on Nyx of NyxQuest fame, is all I can say. Or maybe President Thompson -- I adore Tempura of the Dead.

The game's coming to Wii U, 3DS, PlayStation Vita, and PS4, so no excuses. We need to play this.

1001 Spikes' multiplayer gets everyone in on the dying

If you can be certain of one thing for the upcoming Aban Hawkins & the 1,001 Spikes, it's that dying is an inevitability -- an inevitability that will happen time and time again. This trailer shows some of the ways that ...more

Preview: Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes

Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes was a great concept. It launched way back in 2011 on the Xbox Live Indie store for a whole dollar, and remains one of the best games on the marketplace to this day. But the folks over at Nic...more

Play Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes with friends

Well now, isn't that something? A handful of us here at Destructoid are pumped for Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes, a Nicalis-published revamp of the brutal Xbox Live Indie Games platformer. It's a blast to watch as tensio...more

Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes' level editor in action

We haven't heard anything from Nicalis about their forthcoming 3DS/Wii U/and-maybe-other-consoles title Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes in a while. That's probably because they've been busy with stuff like Ikachan, Guxt, Ra...more

Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes aims for the big time

Aban Hawkins and 1,000 Spikes (by 8BitsFanatics) didn't get a fair shake. The game is better than 99% of the stuff on the Xbox Live Arcade marketplace, but sadly, that's not where it even ended up. Instead, it launched on XB...more

Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes coming to eShop, Wii U

Despite the oh-so-punishing nature of Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes, it's still one of my favorite games to grace the Xbox Live Indie Games channel. Against all odds, the title is being reworked for release on both the 3...more

Spry Fox's next game is Free-Range Dragons

While finishing up work on the roguelike puzzler Road Not Taken this year, Spry Fox also began prototyping its next project, an action title called Free-Range Dragons. With a name like that, it's already off to a good start....more

Review: Lethal League

I’ve tried to explain Lethal League to a lot of people. I've found that the best way to describe it is “If Mario Tennis and Smash Bros. had a baby, and it was raised by European DJs who love baseball.” Now if that doesn’t sound interesting to you I don’t know what would.more
