Here's the latest leaked Project Cafe image photo

We've been inundated with all sorts of mock-ups and leakages concerning Project Cafe, the rumored HD console being developed by Nintendo. The latest development is this supposedly leaked image, found on various forums and image hosts around the 'net.

"Project Cafe is simply the most developer friendly SDK the industry has ever seen," reads the text accompanying the image. "Deliver unparalleled next generation performance at current generation costs. It doesn't get any easier than this."

The image also boasts easy portability from PC and Xbox 360, as well as the ability to update games at any time and an integrated M-Live framework.

As with everything concerning Project Cafe, don't take the picture as incontrovertible truth. Looks pretty slick though, right? What do you reckon?

I just like that people can start saying "next generation" again and have it mean what it's supposed to mean.

So expect lots of ports? I think a 3rd party developer would have to be crazy to invest in a huge budget project for a nintendo console by now, so that seems like the way it will go for at least the first couple of years.

I'm ready for the next gen to start. Something tells me this pic is BS though.

I don't think Nintendo would namedrop the competition or mention "easy portability from the Xbox 360". It just isn't Nintendo's style.

I would have sex with this machine if I could play a Zelda game that looked as good or better than today's Xbox 360/PS3 games. Same goes for Mario.....

Also can't forget how much the Metroid Prime series could benefit....

It looks like a wireless hub to me.Probably not the final version, but I really hope Nintendo market the thing to everyone, not just for the Wii Fit and Wii Sports crowd, or else will be just another shovelware machine with few great games made by Nintendo. I mean, there is what? Ten great third party games in the Wii?

If it doesn't even have any games, then it doesn't have my full attention. Seeing as how it isn't official yet nor do we really know what it is, that means that it does not.

Oddly enough, idle speculation about said object which doesn't have my attention gets my attention nonetheless, meaning that said device being speculated about gets attention by association defeating the purpose of dismissing the thing out of hand.

That must mean that I'm intrigued somewhat but what I'm intrigued about is a matter of intrigue itself.

"Integrated M-Live framework" is the most interesting thing on the slide.

Is Nintendo finally going to embrace the internet and give us their version of Xbox Live?

I'm more likely to believe this, because it matches other black-and-white mock-ups that have been circulating. I agree though that this is likely the dev kit. Still, it would be nice if Nintendo went with something a bit more mature-looking after the Wii's toy-esque design.

I'm gonna say this because it hasn't been said recently enough. Why the hell can't anyone take a half assed decent picture with a smartphone when grabbing pictures to "leak"?

It's not a cute marketing gimmick if it's Nintendo, it just smacks of lazy 2004-style tactics. Like on the level MS was doing back when the 360 was ramping up into rumor.

If it's not Nintendo leaking the pics, buddy, learn to use your phone.

In the age of the internet, I'm gonna side that this was either planted or it's fake. NDA's make people too flighty to just openly do this anymore.

"So expect lots of ports?"

If they come out at the same time, as the other two HD systems and PC, than there not really ports, there multiplatform games, at that point. If Nintendo's system really is more powerful, which all indication seem to suggest that it will be, than who's to say it won't become the lead platform, for a lot of future 3rd Party games? Developers always want to work on the latest and greatest tech, so why would that change, just because its a Nintendo console?

wait so if it can easilly port stuff from pc and 360, have even better and more accurate than wii motion controls and actually useful BD player(unlike crap from ps3 thanks to which developers had to copy each texture and file dozens of times so ps3 wouldn't die) does it mean that we will get collections of ps360 games? i would be down for Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 1 & 2 collection on one disc with all DLC or Rainbow Six Vegas 1 & 2(with first one being updated and additional maps for Terrorist Takedown for example).

@Darren Nakamura

If the OTHER rumors are true, this is closer to a current gen device. Time will tell.

I don't really believe this image, for the reason that I doubt Nintendo would print something so highly leakable. What would be the point? The major developers will get the SDKs regardless, it's not like they have to be sold on them.

It looks like a router.

Seeing as how any basic level graphic design student could whip up something like this, stick it on a projector and take a shitty angled cell phone picture, I'm not buying it.

"I don't think Nintendo would namedrop the competition or mention "easy portability from the Xbox 360". It just isn't Nintendo's style."

They would if they were only showing this image at a presentation to 3rd Party developers and never thought we would see it. Of course, that's only if it really is real, but why wouldn't they mention the competition though? They talk about Apple, Sony and Microsoft all the time publicly. Mr. Iwata even praised Microsoft for XBL, by name at GDC, so they absolutely talk about the competition both as they're competitors and to praise them as well. So they're not Sony, who just trash talks everyone else and act like they invented everything, 12 years before someone else puts it out first and then just copies it a few later!

On a positive note, it would blend right in next to an HTPC or router. I had hoped Nintendo would have been as daring with their design as they would be with controls. I just don't understand them.
