Here's some bloody Dragon Age: Origins screens photo

Whoops. Looks like we forgot some assets in the process of showing you the epic and extremely mature Dragon Age: Origins video a few days ago. Below in the gallery are some recently distributed screenshots of the game. If you choose to browse (and you should) then you’ll notice some still images of a boss fight and plenty of blood and gore.

This new approach to the marketing of the game is interesting to say the least.

As I tweeted earlier, I firmly believe that every Western RPG nut and Baldur’s Gate fanatic should be all over this game. Yet, I don’t seem to get that vibe in our comments. Tell me, what is BioWare doing wrong here? What do you need to see more of? Is there anything missing?

I’m down with this title. Especially after reading David Gaider’s The Stolen Throne. It’s an excellent bit of fiction and a superb primer to the surprisingly deep world that BioWare has created for the title. (Think Martin political intrigue, take it down a few notches and add in some genuinely nice guys.)

I'm not sure what they're doing wrong, at least I couldn't point to enough to explain it.

I do not think the 'sex and violence/Manson' trailer was a good idea at all. Even before that though, they just don't seem to be communicating well. They have a nice website, with too many 'coming soon' sections, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

I feel I should be excited at level 10 for this game, when I'm only at a 7 on my arbitrary scale of anticipation.

I think they need to punch the fact that this is a western style RPG harder. Selling it as an action game is the wrong road, in addition to being misleading; it turns of 'serious' RPG players, and the graphics don't lift it to favourable comparrisons to actual action games.

They should elaborate character development and the non-liniar structure of the plot/world more.

Call me a bitch but this is one of the most live-colored games I have ever seen in the PS3, I love that use of puple.

I somehow agree with Stahlbrand. I really loved Mass Effect even though I'm not a big fan of Sci-Fi except Star Trek. I'm totally into Fantasy but this game just doesn't appeal to me at all. Maybe it's the characters looking too pretty or all screens and trailers never building up enough atmosphere for me. I prefer more "realistic" Fantasy. It look like a low budget movie production imho.

@Stahlbrand: Definitely agreed on their needing to push the western-style RPG aspect harder. I had read some time ago about some spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, but then lost track of it. It wasn't until I read this post that I realized it was one and the same.

There's like, no way I would have ever gotten the impression that that this game was anything but an action game (Kingdom of Heaven/Dynasty Warriors/God of War)--and I'm saturated on those, so this video = zero on the hype-generator for me.

Come back when they have some gameplay videos to show.

I've loosely followed this production since it was first announced back, wow a long time now. I've steered clear of all the videos and more and just read bits and pieces on the general action of the game and so far I'm really looking forward to it. If my PC can run it that is.
I've still yet to play Mass Effect sadly, I should get around to that.

@bobfish you definitely should play mass effect. I might be inclined to say it is my favorite rpg on the xbox 360...maybe even ever since I am such a sci fi fanboy.

Simply put, I'm tired of fantasy settings. Jade Emprie was a step in the right direction, even though it was an Asian fantasy setting, but at least it was somewhat different. I have yet to beat Mass Effect because I can't stand getting bogged down in unskippable cut scenes at some points and then skippable ones that pop up right before the action disrupting the flow of the game, an overly used communication with NPC interface that they just want to show off...but god, it is tedious and boring, elevator rides of course, too many step and fetch it quests, I could go on....I found lots of problems with it that kept me from enjoying the game. Like the vehicle that drives like complete shit with loose floaty controls. The action aspect of the game is awesome, but it gets bogged down to me by tons of niggling hangups. I'll go back and give it another try some day, but it will be with reservations.

this is my most anticipated game as of right now... and may end up being my WoW-killer.

if you are not dying for this game you clearly haven't played BG 1 & 2, which i beat AGAIN during finals week because they're so fucking good (and studying is overrated).

@ Gavin, i'm sorry for your loss of love for high fantasy, but that's my shit, and i will never wish it away.

I salivate at the replay value that will be had with Dragon Age.

They are REALLY trying to emphasize the bloody and violent part of the game aren't they?

I've been psyched about this game for awhile but I've always thought it's name was it's biggest shortcoming. Dragon Age: Origins sounds like a generic trashy fantasy novel.
