Square Enix has given us a huge batch of screenshots for Final Fantasy XIV, the upcoming MMO that Yoichi Wada reckons will give WoW a run for its money. Whether it can tackle Blizzard or not, one thing is clear -- this is going to be one of the more beautiful looking MMOs on the market.
The screens are pretty damn gorgeous, which is par for the course in a Square Enix game. The character customization we talked about the other day has been shown off in hi-res detail here as well, so make sure to check those out if you're planning a jaunt through another pay-as-you-go JRPG world.
Which begs the question: Are you planning such a jaunt? Who is looking forward to checking out Final Fantasy XIV when it finally arrives?

There's a Left 4 Dead 2 screenshot mixed in.
Game looks hot.
Praying I get into the beta.
I'm stoked for this game. Much more stoked, in fact, than I am for XIII.
For probably the millionth time in my life I'll remind somebody that a game doesn't need to beat wow at anything in order to be successful. I really wish people would stop beating that dead horse. Fuck.
Also, this game will be also released on PS3. So, for that instance, the graphics can be as gorgeous as they need to be. If your computer isn't up to par, get it on PS3. But even if that's not the case, look at LOTRO. That game is beautiful, but can be scaled down to such a degree that it can be played on my girlfriends shitty 5 year old laptop. I'm sure they can make FFXIV work on plenty of capable of machines.
Can't any other MMO exist without being compared to that pitiful excuse for a game?
Really again, when Wow first came out, it's graphics were something only stronger computers at the time could handle. it's only now, years later, is it seen as a game that could run on "older computers". WoW did not get to where it was today by holding back on it's graphics.
FFXIV in this case is thinking of the long run, what are high graphics today will become standard graphics tomorrow, and become old the day after that. The low end standard for computers is constantly rising. I mean just about any computer these days could handle games more powerful than WoW; WoW is already looking old. And this is something that Aion and other MMO's coming out are relying on, that new players who have computers that can run games more graphically pleasing than WoW will choose their games because their games look a hell of a lot prettier.
am i seeing GIANT ENEMY CRABS!?
Anyway, FF14 looks gorgeous. Hope they don't make it too grindy.
That was a complement, by the way.
