Nintendo made a lot of noise yesterday about upcoming releases, so some stuff probably got lost in the shuffle. Admittedly, some of it probably should have...
But Night Games, a WiiWare exclusive title developed by Cave Story developer Nicalis, should not. The title is a nominee for a 2009 Independent Games Festival Seumas McNally Award (say that five times fast), so you know what that means -- it's nothing like, say, Killzone 2.
What it does look like is a gorgeous and atmospheric experience that has a similar look and feel to Nicalis' other titles. That is to say it looks incredible, of course. The gameplay appears to involve using physics to push a glowing sphere throughout the world.
Forget talking about Night Games though; check out the trailer that Nicalis released exclusively to our friends at GoNintendo. It's pretty stunning, and I think it's a game you're going to be hearing a lot about in 2009.

Im glad to see wiiware is finally getting less shitty titles.
Well first, and foremost they have to be considered great games. I'm not saying Flower isn't a good game, because it is at a 88% on Metacritic, but Noby Noby Boy isn't even all that great as its sits at only 74% on Metacritic. Where as both World of Goo on WiiWare, and Braid on XBLA have 93% on Metacrtic.
So just because a game is quirky, and unique doesn't make it the next great indie darling. Night Games does looks awesome, so I hope it can be the next great indie game, but for it to be the next WOG/Briad its going to have to get great reviews to be in that elite company. Which games like Flower, and Noby Noby Boy are just not there.
