Here is how Adventure Time: HIKWYSOG? was made
Last week on Sup Holmes, we were lucky to talk to WayForward's James Montagna, the director of Adventure Time: Hey Ice King Why'd You Steal Our Garbage? for the DS and 3DS (podcast available here). James was kind enough to give us some maybe-exclusive slabs of info, and they are my kind of slabs. Full in-game vocals for certain parts of the soundtrack confirmed! Flame Princess and The Earl of Lemongrab confirmed! Marcaline the Vampire Queen boss fight confirmed! Back rubs from Hotdog Princess confirmed! Everyone's new Game of the Year pre-confirmed (unless you don't like that sort of thing, and if so, then not). We also got a deeper look into the creative process behind the game. 2am text messages from series creator Pendleton Ward about new script ideas, taking notes from series artist and song writer Rebecca Sugar on sound direction, using EarthBound-style sprites in the game as as temporary graphics, and later decided to leave those graphics in the game because EarthBound is awesome were all part of the proceedings. As a huge EarthBound fan, sprite art fan, and Adventure Time fan, I have rarely envied a human being more than Mr. James Montagna. There is a lot more to James than just Adventure Time though. He's worked on multiple other WayForward titles, as well as smaller projects like And Then, The Ghost Saw Hands: A Game I've Never Played, Pop Pop Battle J and Snake 2. Check out the full episode for more on what makes this man tick, and tune in this Sunday as WayForwardVember continues with Silent Hill: Book of Memories' Adam Tierney. Did you know?
