"The spirit of Baldurs Gate is rolling over in its grave."</p>

Why? DAO was fantastic. It is probably the best W/C (Western/Computer) RPG of the passed 5 years. The only real challengers are: Mass Effect 1/2, Fallout 3/NV, the Witcher.</p>
I've never heard of the Dragaon Age 2 game you mentioned, but I'd LOVE to see some Dragon Age 2 footage if you've got any of that :P</p>
Looks like it uses a completely different or heavily updated engine for this one. I might pick up the Ultimate edition when I can just so I'm prepared for this one.</p>
Loved the first one despite its flaws - already have the signature edition on pre-order from Amazon. Not sure about this vid tho, the combat looks like a lot of running around and kiting? Mages are by nature wussy tho:) Can't wait, Bioware makes quality stuff.</p>
This doesn't look bad at all. Definitely pleased that it isn't God of War RPG. Engine looks sexier, no doubt about that, even in shaky-cam form.</p>
<p>
@bmanilow13</p>
<p>
That's what a mage-class does in any action-RPG after the tank dies. The party in the video is on its last legs. If the tank hadn't died, she wouldn't be running around kiting everything. Likewise, if the player was playing as the tank, you can bet he wouldn't be running around kiting.</p>
Hmm, kinda getting annoyed now that they keep showing the console versions whenever there is news. I want to see if they keep their promise that the PC version will be realtively the same and superior - sorry I mean 'a different experience' in their words - to the consoles.</p>
<p>
If not I suppose I could play it on my PS3 but I can't get my head around playing this type of game on a console.</p>
So we went from tactical RPG to action RPG? Blech. I'll keep an eye on it, but consider the Eyebrow of Skepticism raised.</p>
I wonder if you'll need to play the first to understand the plot to the second, or if it will be a standalone game.</p>
<p>
For now its a maybe, but that might change by march.</p>
Seems like there's a bit more focus on flash; I suppose I can't make any comments about it not being tactical until I see the Tactics screen. The feeling of the video with the Warrior alive looked vaguely arcadey; almost makes me wonder if they've increased the level of interactivity of the martial classes. I'd be all about this even if it's some sort of action-rpg hybrid for them, since in DA I personally didn't feel like the martial classes felt "epic" even at late levels as their animations remained the same for nearly every attack from level 1 to whatever you ended at.</p>
<p>
On the other hand, if it is sort of action-rpg'ish, hope the AI is good enough to pull off moves via tactics effectively; I'd hate to have to jump into every individual player when I should be able to set their tactics intricately for success.</p>
What lovely shades of brown you are...In all seriousness, there's not really enough here to get a good feel for how the game plays (especially on the PC), but I hope the environments will be more varied. It does concern me that they've been so reluctant to show any gameplay up until now, but we'll just have to wait and see.</p>
@Epic: I really hope your right about the pc version being like DA. If its hack'n slash. I'll have to pass on this game till it $20. I already have a game that was meant to be hack'n slash on my pc, Darksiders and DMC FTW.
I guess the lowest common denominator does override design.
I smell the stench of EA's influence on this... probably said DA:O wasn't accessible enough to mouth breathers.
Oh well. Guess I'll keep on waiting for the next RPG that captures my interests.
If it is the latter,all it means is that there will be one less obstacle between the player and the characters they control.
Likely,the same strategies will work,just without the lag, while just hitting Attack in the more difficult battles will end in failure all the same,though now, there may be a pesky requirement of player skill to evade attacks rather than leave it all up to stats such as Dexterity or Cunning to avoid injuries automatically by using the magic of mathmatics.
I simply can't accept the fact that things can.... IMPROVE with time!?! I mean, when has THAT ever happened!
Now console players might enjoy it! They dumbed it down! I mean, previously Playing Dragon Age was like performing Computation Calculus, but now it's like Simon Says! How DARE they change the gameplay to make it more accessible and less stat driven! If I'm not juggling at least 4 different stats and pausing the game every 3 seconds, how am I to know if I'm having fun!?!
This is sacrilege, an ABOMINATION! How am I to get my nostalgia fix now!?! Everyone knows that my nostalgia comes first, investment return and sales be DAMNED, BioWare OWE me, because I got like two of their previous games, which obviously means I have the moral right to dictate how they make a game!
I'm not even going to GIVE THIS A CHANCE! Open minds and new experiences are for suckers, while premature judgement and cries of doom are what REAL AMERICANS do!
"That looked pretty crap. Not one tactical pause other than AoE spell targeting. Warrior looks pretty much just hack and slash.
I smell the stench of EA's influence on this... probably said DA:O wasn't accessible enough to mouth breathers"
I KNOW RIGHT! I was just talking to Jenkins the other day, you know Jenkins, associate professor of Warriology and Rogueocracy at UCLA? And he was SHOCKED and APPALLED at how 'dumbed down' DA2 syllabus would be! Dumbing down a video game, what's next, dumbing down Wrestling!?! Everyone knows that strategy games are supposed to tax the mind of the player, oh sorry, "interactive experiencer" to its natural limits! We can't let ordinary "plebs" play video games, sorry, sorry, interactive experiences! How could the FEEBLE mind of a CONSOLE player POSSIBLY comprehend the TRUE ART of Dragon Age!? It would be like teaching kickboxing to a goldfish! We PC players, with our SUPERIOR MINDS are the only ones CAPABLE of playing it as GOD INTENDED!
Oh how dreary this world has become! Dragon Age was our time's Wagner, our time's Descartes, and to see the BRILLIANCE and SHEER COMPLEXITY and WONDER of a game (sorry, interactive experience), be diluted and DESECRATED and LOWERED to the shallow DEPTHS of the COMMON MAN, it's DISGUSTING!
Note that I shall write a very stern letter to the manufactory managers at BioWare, informing them that their deteriorating standards no longer appeal to high-minded gentlemen such as ourselves, Ultor.
Sincerely
A PC playing snobbish bastard
(By the way, I do play games on my PC. I'm just not as much of an arrogant fucktard to insult people who don't)
Apart from that the combat is very much like the console version of DA:O. They just made it a little bit more responsive and with better animations. There is no button mashing and you can pause and issue orders just as in DA:O. And the PC version will be zoomed out and like before.
So calm down. Please.
This game is nothing like a hack and slash. It is like before but with better graphics and responsiveness. In other words: They fixed what was broken.
Oh, and the game looks much much better than before.
