Here, have some NHL 2K9 screenshots photo

In case you missed it, 2K Sports released their first trailer for NHL 2K9 a couple of days ago, and now we’ve got a bevy of screens to go with it. There are 15 images of the PS3/360 version of the game, and 17 from the waggle-enhanced Wii version.

Again, I’m happy to note that 2K’s infamous depth of field filter seems to have been removed from the game -- now, there’s a simple focus blur effect that’s much less overzealous and intrusive. In other words, it’s the way it’s supposed to be. Speaking of the background, the crowd looks fantastic -- fully polygonal and relatively detailed, not that last-gen 2D crap. Here’s hoping their animations aren’t as robotic as most videogame crowds (and that they repeat less).

As for the Wii version, its visual fidelity obviously isn’t up to snuff when compared with the HD iterations, but I can at least give it the standard commendation: “It looks good...for a Wii game.” More intriguing is the last Wii screenshot, which shows off the interface of a Wiimote/Nunchuk fighting minigame. That actually looks fun -- I just hope it works better than Wii Boxing.

Hit up the gallery below to see all the shots. NHL 2K9 will skate over to store shelves for the PS3, 360, Wii, and PS2 on September 8th.

Since I'm a graphics whore I have to point out the obvious: The image quality disparity between the two consoles is increasingly noticeable. But it's got waggle!

NO. NO it DOESN'T look good for a Wii game. It looks like SHIT. I hate how our standards for a good looking Wii game have dropped SO FAR that THIS is considered good. Until that last screenshot, I was praying those were PSP screenshots. The Wii is better than this and you know it. Ugh.

I bet the Wii version will have cartoony graphics.

The high def screens look pretty nice, but I think I'll be holding out for NHL 09.

@unstoppablejuggernaut: Dude, I totally would have -- you know me -- but sadly, there wasn't a Rangers jersey to be seen in any of the 32 screenshots.

Looks good. As a Chicago native I'm looking forward to this season, all the Blackhawk games will be televised. Not that I'm a big hockey fan but at least I have the choice to be this year. And...wait for it...an outdoor Hawk's game at Wrigley field on January 1st I believe. Can't wait to try and get tickets for that.

Why did they put a Wii controller on a DS game?

Those screens look nice but I usually hold out as these hockey games drop down to $19-$29 by the end of the season....

Big hockey fan. Thanks for the new pics.. but if this game is gonna be like any of the other 2k hockey titles then this game is going to be "the brutes".
