Here come some Alien vs. Predator details! photo

Since it was announced a few months ago, Alien vs. Predator has become one of my most eagerly awaited titles. Speaking as a massive Xenomorph fan, this game is going to make me soak my panties. To keep things moist, a batch of fresh details have been revealed in PSW, which we are now regurgitating like birds feeding their young.

The game will feature three-way combat between the Aliens, the Predators and the Marines, and the three factions will be balanced out with a rock/paper/scissors sensibility. As well as multiplayer, there will also be a single player campaign for each of the three species. The game is set thirty years after the events of Aliens, with the Xenomorph threat resurfacing on a brand new colonial planet.

"As the Colony continued digging for minerals they discovered ancient ruins that immediately caught the attention of Weyland Yutani, who began doing a more thorough sweep of the rest of the planet," explains Rebellion co-founder Jason Kingsley. "That was seven years ago, and recently the company found what they were looking for, but couldn't contain it..."

Kingsley compares this new effort to the studio's original AvP games, believing this will be a superior title. With the original PC titles, he claims there were hardware limitations holding them back, but now Rebellion is free to do as it wishes. The original games will lie at the heart of this one's development, though. Sounds hot and I cannot wait to see more from this.

I definitely cannot wait for this. It's been far too long since we've had a decent AvP game (or film, for that matter); and here's hoping the new "Rock-Paper-Scissors" balance system fixes some of the issues (like those annoying players who used to spam the Predator's razor-frisbee D:<)

I don't know if I can stay frosty until 2010.

Also, you'd think after 30 years of fighting (or at least being 'aware' of) the Xeno infestation, the Marines would have acid proofed their gear, have protocols for infected comrades, etc.

So... predator > alien > marine > predator, then?

Do we know if this is in first-person or third-person view yet?

Ugh, something about the word "moist" just gets to me, I can't explain it.

This reminded me of how much I love that Aliens vs. Predator arcade beat 'em up. I'd love to see that on XBLA/PSN, but won't hold my breath.

I've played enough FPS AVP titles, here's to hoping it's a solid third person title.

OMGPWNIES! Can't wait!

I just wanna hunt Marines as a Predator using stealth. That's all I want. I'd be perfectly happy in the jungles with Arnie.

They need the balance of the first AvP which was that the individual races are totally unbalanced but it worked when you had a squad of marines, a couple of aliens picking them off and a predator stalking them all.

This is cool but this has to put the last nail in the coffin of Gearbox's Colonial Marines game. How could they release a game where you play as a CM and fight aliens when there's a game coming that will have three different campaigns. I hope I'm wrong but I'm betting the Gearbox version is toast.

The first two AvP games are some of my favorite FPSs of all time! No information as to what the game looks like or how it plays?

As long as it capitalizes on what made the first two great, then I really don't care about it being either first or third person; it just needs to have the unparalleled horror aspect for Colonial Marines, feeling of isolation as an Alien, and duty to stalk human and alien prey alike as a Predator.

If they can keep those elements in tact for this title, while molding the Aliens: Colonial Marines into something of a more-technical pseudo-L4D-styled squad-based horror FPS/3rdPS, then I'll be brimming with joy!
