Here are the nominees for the 2008 Machinima Filmfest photo

The nominees for the 5th Machinima Filmfest have been announced! If someone like me who rarely ever pays attention to machinima can recognize a few names on the list, you know the entries mean business.

With more than fifteen different categories, you better believe there's a lot of great content to be viewed. I've only seen Portal: A Day in the Life of a Turret, The Bag Boy, and Ignis Solus, so it appears I have a sizable amount of catching up to do.

If you'd like to attend the festival and see panels, presentations, and screenings of the the entries, it's taking place on November 1 at the Eyebeam center for Art and Technology in New York.

For those of you who keep up with the latest and greatest machinima, which films are you rooting for?

[Thanks, Seth!]

Not sure how Portal: A day in the life of a turret got there.
I thought it was meh.
On the other hand, I liked both Ignis Solus, and War of the Servers.

Ignis Solus was extremely well done and a nice reprieve from the glut of immature YouTube-level machinima we've seen the past year or two. (Not that lowbrow machinima doesn't have a special place in my heart.)

Lit Fuse Films movies are always good.

But RvB:Reconstruction isn't in Best Series, which is totally unacceptable. Especially giving the HUGE twist in the latest episode. Seriously. Anyone who thought that was coming lies.

I haven't seen many of these before so I'm watching some now.

"World of Workcraft" was pretty funny.

"Halo 3: The Bag Boy" was awesome.

"A Day In The Life of a Torrent" is awesome too but I've seen it before.

"Nico Bellic - A Portrait" sucked.

"Without Providence" was really well done.

"Blackstone" was cool but nothing really interesting happened.

I'm done watching these for now.

I've only seen those three plus The Device Has Been Modified, but I know Ignis Solus deserves some sort of award.

The Portal video is shit. It's nothing but tactless, blunt-instrument humor. It was like a group of frat boys saw a clever, witty machinima and said, "Hey, let's do that with this Portal shit!" Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I also didn't really find Ignis Solus to be all that good. Not sure why it's so universally loved. Still, it's good to see TF2 represented.

Ignus Solus, A Day In The Life, and Without Providence are amazing. Great to see them on this list.

Day in the life of a turret was midly entertaining back when I saw it what... a year ago now? It hasn't aged well.
