Just no more monster closets. No more flashlights. The game has never been horror based. Just fast crazy shooting with no set pieces or turret "scenes".
Didn't Rage sell around 2 million just on consoles, not including steam/pc sales?
Really loved Rage and though it was a great return for Id so I'm looking forward to this although it doesn't look very Doom esqe. As some others have said I'd imagine that most of these would have to pre-hell shots with the city in the vortex thing being the last. Either way, exciting. Hope we hear more soon.
Ehm, bullcrap. We were scared shitless by Doom and Doom II back in the 90's as well, with the enemies behind doors and sudden appearances from hidden rooms. Even the developers talked about how they had people telling them stories of how the sounds in the game made people feel chills. I still do by the Demon sound sometimes.
Doom is a horror series, as for if it should be a flashlight + darkness series is a different thought important discussion, but horror it definitely is.
Agreed. Doom 3, while overly dark, will scare the living hell out of you. No, it's not particularly inventive with the scares. But it is highly effective.
Sure, we can discuss the general failure of not putting lights on the actual guns themselves or being able to duck tape a flashlight to the guns, but overall the game's atmosphere was utterly scartastic. Just a shame the combat felt so...off in ways.
Rage started out so slow, I almost didn't give it a chance. It actually turned out to be a really good game, you just have to power through the 1st hour or so until the cooler missions start to kick in.
I recommend it for anyone who needs a good single player FPS to play, especially at it's current low low price.
Because they're led by one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) technical wizards in the entire industry and have one of the most solid catalogs in the entire history of videogames backing them up :)
One misstep (Rage) does not mean the death of an entire company!
