Rolling Stone's blog let loose news today that the albums of Jimi Hendrix, the greatest guitarist of all time, will be released as DLC for Rock Band. And it's coming really soon. The first album released will be Axis: Bold as Love, Hendrix's second studio album, and it comes out next Tuesday, March 30th, to Xbox 360. PSN users will get the album on April 1st.
But that's apparently not all. Hendrix's other albums, Are You Experienced? and Electric Ladyland, are due to hit in coming months as well as the posthumously released First Rays of the Rising Sun. Plus, Rolling Stone reports that a deal has been made to use a character based off Hendrix's likeness as well as recreating his instruments, so there may be a Jimi Hendrix Rock Band package of some kind in the future as well.
Good news for those of us who've always wanted a genuine excuse to light our plastic guitars on fire.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Get the fuck out.
They got their own game more for the great and amazing songs, not just the 2 or 4 good ones you mention.
GTFO.
Anyway fantastic news can't wait to play them
But why are all the people around here with Metal Gear avatars fucking ridiculous?
People who say this have usually never actually listened to the Beatles.
"That's my opinion, and I'm fucking entitled to it."
People who say this are usually dumb assholes who dedicate their time to fucking up comment sections for news stories that other people would like to discuss. Did you see me enter the post about the Lady Gaga DLC and call everyone there a fanboy?
You're fucking retarded.
@twelvefiftyone
You certainly seem to have a high opinion of yourself, I've only seen a few comments, but so far the Beatles are absolute rubbish and anyone who isnt a child or a female is a loser if they own a DS.
I assume you're either a troll or havent had the time to realise that as much as you are entitled to your opinion, others are also similarly entitled to their own.
My current opinion is you should take your head out of your ass.
And as for CrazyApe: I really don't consider them getting ruined if added to Rock Band, unlike Guitar Hero, the guys at Harmonix know how to treat the bands, and being able to play their songs on it is a great thing, IMO. When they announced electric Six songs were coming out as DLC, I nearly flipped out, counting down the days till the update, instead of for some reason saying they ruined them.
Personally, I'm glad this asshole died before he could dredge up more derivitive shit. How does that make you feel? The Beatles had a far more gripping effect on modern music.
Jackassism aside, I always love when I see Zz Top live and they play Fire or another Hendrix song. Jimi looked up to Gibbs like a motherfucker.
/unfunny joke that John Mayer fans probly don't get
also, @ twelvefiftyone
Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. But I think it's a safe bet that it's in yours and everyone else's best interest to not present it like an absolute asshole. Seriously, who wins when you belittle people? Do you feel better?
"LMAO@ Jackasses who think The Beatles have any other good songs besides Rocky Raccoon and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. You GTFO, Fanboys"
"I didn't belittle anyfuckingbody."
I'm gonna let you figure that one out on your own.
Actually, on second thought, I'm not sure I can count on that, so I'll help you out. You don't think that's flaming? You don't think that your deliberately INFLAMMATORY (it almost has the word "flame" in it!) remarks are considered flaming? Having your opinion is one thing, being a douchebag is another.
And you might wonder, "ndschroede23, aren't you being a douchebag to me, thereby betraying your own rule?" You'd be right, but I have another rule that says douchebags are the only people deserve to be treated like douchebags.
Here we see Homo Mentulus (Penis Human), or troll (alternately known in certain regions as "basement-dweller"), in its natural habitat. Note that although the taxonomical name indicates that this species is a member of genus Homo, to which H. S. Sapiens belongs, this name has since become inaccurate. Biologists have noted several behavioral and anatomical differences ("internet tough guy" behavior, unusually pale skin, weak physical build, disregard for human social norms, etc.) that distinguish Homo Mentulus from other members of genus Homo. Therefore, Homo Mentulus has been placed in a new subgenus, Molestia, which is in fact the only subgenus of genus Homo.
This niche predator feeds primarily on the anger of other species. This provides the troll with "lulz", a form of currency used solely to gain respect from others of its species. Notice how the troll uses witty toilet-based humor and broad, inflammatory remarks in an attempt to fluster its prey. Note also that it displays behavior typical of other members of subgenus Molestia, specifically that of Homo Moros (Dull Human), known commonly as the "fanboy". Fanboys often exhibit a behavioral quirk known as "backpedalling", where the fanboy denounces object a, while simultaneously advertising the merits of object b in an effort to arouse feelings of resentment and hatred. As others turn against it, the fanboy then attempts to validate its claims and garner sympathy by claiming that it knows what it talks about because it has owned or personally experienced object a. This rarely works on more intelligent individuals, but often works when the fanboy is addressing a sizable group simultaneously. This is due to the fact that a person is smart, but people are quite stupid. (Kay, 1997)
Also notable is the exquisite use of profanity. Many experts have argued that because Homo Mentulus lacks the capacity for artistic expression, it is incapable of producing any work of artistic value. This is simply not true. The elegant, efficient placement of profanity, obscenities, and in some cases racial and ethnic slurs, has been observed to be almost impressionistic in nature. This particular specimen liberally applies some variation of the words "fuck", "ass", and "shit" to nearly every sentence. Given that these are the only words used, we can postulate that the specimen is preoccupied with anal sex. As to whether or not the specimen is giving it or taking it, the answer is simple. In its last work, or "post", as they are commonly known among its kind, it uses the word "fuck" precisely 3 times, but uses "ass" and "shit" a total of once apiece. Because the word "fuck" is used more often, and only in the active tense, it is apparent that this specimen is the top, and not the bottom.

I stand in humble awe.
This is what I fucking want! As a big rockband fan, a big Hendrix fan and a guitarist myself, I've been itching to play some virtual Hedrix.
In fact I kept my Guitar Hero World Tour Disc, just for the 2 Hendrix songs!
I just ordered a set of Rockband Drums and I'm looking at upgrading from RB1 to RB2.
So this is pure win.
I'm not a huge Hendrix fan but I'll probably get the album next week.
I'm more interested in seeing what other artists Harmonix might be getting discographies of...
For one, I'd actually buy it.
That said, goodbye, wallet.
Educate yourself. There's more than enough substantial evidence that a Hendrix game is coming out. Jamie Hendrix let it slip about a month ago. As for the Beatles I like 'em but to each his own. I know plenty of well respected people in the music industry who feel that they're overrated as well. It's not that big of a deal guys. Calm down.
Also, Hendrix FTW.
Fuck Harmonix and their selling out.
Killer Instinct
That's weak sauce up in Harlem
Oh and this:
Plus, Rolling Stone reports that a deal has been made to use a character based off Hendrix's likeness as well as recreating his instruments, so there may be a Jimi Hendrix Rock Band package of some kind in the future as well.
Oh the lost art of reading the article before commenting.
And your argument about making the first comment is pretty retarded. Yeah you might not have started the actual direct ad hominem attacks, but you are being WAY more of a douchebag than anyone else in this thread. If you stab a guy in the neck because he punched you in the arm, you're not justified in saying "lol he started it." You're still way more of a douchebag than you should be, regardless of who made you act like one.
I also love that you go to such great lengths and theatrics to try to insult me, but you're wasting your time. In the vein of strained analogies, it's like Joey Harrington telling me I'm not good at throwing a football. Really not as effective as you might think.
