Also, I'm super amazing at finding gaming deals, I know that won't matter much in the grand scheme of a persistent guide that may not include prices or be updated beyond the final list, but if I can help (anyone) in that regard I'd be happy to give it a try.
We pretty much stick to gaming stuff. Here are the last two years' guides for reference:

Videogame paraphernalia on the other hand, is something I love to receive/give. Plush dolls, art books, anything.
Not really sure honestly, depends on who were targetting. Our readers? Kids? 60 year old war veteran's?
Yes, there is something nice about receiving a gift under the tree. But if you don't have specific knowledge of what your gamer wants, just get the gift card. I have never known ANYONE to be pissed off at getting something that gives them a free game of THEIR choice.

Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America - I think its important to remember where we've been and why we are where we are. I also hear its a really good read.
1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die - Because Videogames.
Changing the Game: How Video Games Are Transforming the Future of Business - one of the things I love most about this site is how much we learn about the Business end of things. This might be a good read for those who are as interested in that as I am.
Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World - Book causes a huff on Fox news, and the author stuck to her guns and didn't get steamrolled (if I remember right) by it. Says wonders on how good this book would be.
Clothing and Apparel:
Both of these hats are just... Awesome.
Nintendo Hats: Shy Guy Cap (These hats are 12" x 7") - http://www.toysnjoys.com/nintendo/shy-guy-cosplay-cap.jpg

Pac Man T-Shirt: Epic Fail - http://www.toysnjoys.com/namco/epicfail.jpg - Like this hasn't happened to any of is at least once...
Zelda: Map & Route Wallet - http://www.toysnjoys.com/zelda/maproutewallet.jpg - coolest wallet I've seen in a while.
Toys and trinkets:
Nintendo Super Mario Donkey Kong Jenga Game - I could have put Mario monopoly or Mario Yatzee on here (go look them up too!) but this Jenga is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.
Nintendo Kirby Adventure 6'' Plush - Sword - http://www.toysnjoys.com/kirby/sword.jpg - Just look at it!
Games:
Red Dead Revolver Game of The Year Edition -hey, some of us haven't played it yet! Why not get it with all the stuff included (at least they didn't release this only 6 months later!)
Microsoft/PSN points -DLC isn't getting any cheaper! (or buy those Online passes with them ;) )
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection - People are going to buy this regardless of this list. However, this is a great gift for people who don't know a DARPA Chief from a whole in the wall.
Toys for JimmyX:
Gears of War: Marcus Fenix 12" Action Figure - http://www.toysnjoys.com/gearsofwar/marcusfenix12in.jpg
