Also, I'm super amazing at finding gaming deals, I know that won't matter much in the grand scheme of a persistent guide that may not include prices or be updated beyond the final list, but if I can help (anyone) in that regard I'd be happy to give it a try.

iPad. Can't deny it's changing gaming and it's also great for GameFAQs lookups, reading destructoid, and nearly everything else ever.

Oh.. and -what might be a dumb question- is the gift guide only going to be gaming related, or will D-toid be covering a spectrum of things people might like?

Gift cards! They're perfect gifts to give for either the lazy ass that doesn't want to try too hard in choosing gifts, the lazy ass who waits to the last minute to buy gifts, or the lazy ass who's too lazy to find out what kind of games the recipient might like. I, personally, love getting cards to places like Target, Best Buy, and GameStop so that I can just pick out whatever I want and not risk the possible awkward situation of getting a game I don't like or already have. PSN/XBL gift cards also work.

The thing about getting a game for someone is most of us already know what we want well in advance, if you get a game for someone chances are they didn’t want it that much or already planned to pick it up sometime. So, don’t get games for gamers, I guess.

Videogame paraphernalia on the other hand, is something I love to receive/give. Plush dolls, art books, anything.

A Nintendo 3DS, unless your a young toddler because then I'd be burning your eyes sunny side up.

Unless you know of a specific title that a gamer in your life wants, the best thing you can give is an Amazon, Steam, or other gaming outlet gift card. There really is nothing like receiving what is basically 'free money' that must be used on a game or something fun, and can't be saved in a bank or used to pay bills. There's a delightful freedom about it that any gamer can appreciate it.

Yes, there is something nice about receiving a gift under the tree. But if you don't have specific knowledge of what your gamer wants, just get the gift card. I have never known ANYONE to be pissed off at getting something that gives them a free game of THEIR choice.

Changing the Game: How Video Games Are Transforming the Future of Business - one of the things I love most about this site is how much we learn about the Business end of things. This might be a good read for those who are as interested in that as I am.

Reality Is Broken: Why Games Make Us Better and How They Can Change the World - Book causes a huff on Fox news, and the author stuck to her guns and didn't get steamrolled (if I remember right) by it. Says wonders on how good this book would be.
