     retro

Instead of calling your family more or trying to lose weight, why don’t you start off 2009 with a resolution that really matters? Giving to children! Best retro podcast ever RetroforceGO! is teaming up with Child’s Play for a charity auction of retro proportions. And you can be a part of it! Yay, good karma!

Starting today, we are accepting retro videogame donations to be included in a giant eBay auction at the end of the month we are calling RetroforceGIVE! Mega Drive (thanks to Anthony and Topher for that perfect moniker). The money made on the auction will go directly to Child’s Play, a community based charity that helps sick kids by providing them with videogames to play while in the hospital. What could be a better gift than to provide a sweet kid with the glory of playing Final Fantasy VI for the first time?

And when I say “giant eBay auction” I am not kidding. Care of a secret, high profile industry donor (and huge fan of RetroforceGO!), the collection is already off to a jaw-dropping start. This secret insider donated a whopping 350 retro games from the NES, SNES, Genesis, and PlayStation, including such high ticket items as a copy of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night signed by Igarashi, Alien Hominid signed by Dan Paladin, EarthBound, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and Final Fantasy VII. Basically, some lucky bidder is going to be a very happy person ... and that doesn’t even include the awesome stuff I know you all are going to contribute as well!

This is truly going to be a fantastic experience and something the gang at RetroforceGO! is unbelievably proud to be a part of. If you have any retro videogame stuff you want to donate to a wonderful cause (preferably PlayStation/Nintendo 64 or earlier), please hit the jump for details on where to send everything. Also check out the jump for a list of all the games currently in the massive collection (be prepared: it is beyond epic). Deadline for donations is January 29th, but I will post a reminder as things get closer.

Be a part of something incredible and help make the young upcoming gamers of this world smile. You are all amazing! I know we have what it takes to make this the best charity auction EVER!

You can send all your donations to:

I want to donate something, but I don't even own anything retro that isn't already on that list. Perhaps DtoidLosAngeles should make a trip to a retro game shop to find stuff?

@Everyone,
And, please, don't worry about boxes, manuals, or everything being in mint condition. We will take whatever you are willing to part with!

Oh, and no reason to stick with just games! If you have any old posters, t-shirts, toys ... anything retro videogame-related will do.

I can't type enough <3s for how much I appreciate the support, so here's twenty to start with:

Large charity auctions never get the money they deserve because the price is so high...

Alright, I finally tracked down my old ass Game Gear. I'm sorry to say that it's kinda beat up: there are no battery covers on the back, the screen is a little scratched, and there are some other minor dents and dings. It still plays, as far as I know. Still want it?

I'll also throw in The Majors Pro Baseball, Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing, Sonic 2, Mortal Kombat, and Interplay 5-in-one Fun Pack (board games and shit). All for the low, low price of free!

I'd suggest auctioning the autographed SotN separately.I know some Castlevania fans that would sell an organ to get that. Besides, I have another (original run) copy that can take its place.

Sadly, I don't have any true retro items. I'll consider sending in my modest collection of PSOne RPGs, though. Suikoden, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, FF7, 8 and 9, Lunar SSSC and Eternal Blue, and Front Mission 3.

Just have to shake off the nostalgia long enough to box them up. There could be tears.

Somewhere a friend of mine has my copy of the yoshi's story CD soundtrack.

Chad - would PAL cartridges be acceptable given they are sent to an american address? I have a bunch of old N64 games but other than the novelty value of an american owning Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64 to you) they might not be much use.

When I got home last night, the same thing occurred to me as what Junglistgamer said: all my N64 games were bought in the UK - does this mean that they are no good for you? I also had a lot of trouble finding any Saturn games - either they are hidden in a box somewhere, or I have already given them away.

All is not lost, however, because I still have a bunch of US Gamecube titles which I can't play on the Wii - so I'll be sending you those and some random other stuff, but I'll wait until we hear something about region-coded games before I go to the post office....
