Hellion: Mystery of the Inquisition introduces Godric photo

Hellion: Mystery of the Inquisition is one of the more obscure new games coming out, but it's certainly interesting. Its medieval setting and quasi-religious tone gives it a very unique premise, and today we've been introduced to the game's main character, Godric of Glastonbury.

Godric is a Dominican knight, dedicated to the Pope and determined to rid the world of evil, following a traumatic event in his youth. A skilled sword fighter, he learns the ways of exorcism and joins the inquisition, ready to battle heretics, demons and any other blasphemy that decides to take him on.

Hellion has potential to be a very memorable game indeed. We really need to see some gameplay however, in order to seal the deal.

Frankfurt, Germany / Gdynia, Poland, June 09th 2009 – As the satanic brood turns the world into chaos, today Flying Fish Works announces the main character for their upcoming product “Hellion: Mystery of the Inquisition”. “Godric of Glastonbury”, a European sword master full of honor and devotion to the Holy Roman Church, is a religious servant during the unpromising resistance against the inconceivable evil.

A horrible incidence in his younger days decide “Godric” to become a master of sword fighting. Full of grief and aware of omnipresent injustice he left his homeland to revenge the past. On his journey across Europe, “Godric” joined the Dominicans, dedicated to the Pope, preaching and converting the non-believers. The Dominicans decided to reveal their arcane to “Godric”, including their knowledge of the supernatural and their ways of resisting both spiritual and incarnate evil. “Godric” gained knowledge of exorcism and together with his will to accomplish his fate he became a very unique knight.

“Hellion: Mystery of the inquisition” is an extraordinary First-Person-Shooter set in the 13th century. As an armed man of the newborn Inquisition, the player will battle heretics, execute exorcisms, face demons and unintentionally become part of a political and religious intrigue. It is an epic journey through different medieval cultures full of real-life characters, wild animals, rough warriors, powerful Templar knights, deadly assassins and, ultimately, horrifying demons.

Wait, that's a first person shooter? The story and setting certainly make it sound like a RPG. Thus, I am intrigued. One of the things I hate about FPS' is the cookie-cutter storylines. I'll have to keep an eye on this.

This could be awesome. I like the idea of things starting off very realistically then slipping further and further into supernatural horror.

Defend Pope Simplicius with your life, oh holy and righteous butcher Sir Godric of Glastonbury! Rome will burn with the wrath of God! Fissures will swallow the souls of the non-believers! Death to all who might challenge the Almighty God with free thought, foreign deities, and respect for the female species! Praise Him, for He is Good!

No thanks. I think I'll just take my fair dose of religious murder in the form of Assassin's Creed 2. But I will play this game. Because I do love me some killing of some demons.

I like the character art and will watch for more information.

Seems in the last few years we've had games on Classical and Norse mythology, between this and Dante's Inferno, it looks like we'll be gaming-up Christian mythology as the new backdrop for hack'n'slash.

I'm impressed with the amount of games that only Jim seems to care.

I was starting to salivate until I read "an extraordinary First-Person-Shooter".

Can anyone please tell me what's so goddamned special about FPSs, that everyone seems to be making them these days?
