Hellgate: London making its triumphant return photo

It's not every day you see the servers for a multiplayer game get turned back on after a period of total silence. In the case of Hellgate: London, the situation is even more special than that -- a completely new company (HanbitSoft) is the one responsible for the game's return.

Originally developed by Flagship Studios, the new and (hopefully vastly) improved game that's been worked on by T3 Entertainment since 2008 has undergone a slight change in name. Make a mental note of Hellgate: Resurrection.

Movies with "resurrection" in the title generally aren't very good. Does that rule apply to games too? I hope not. Anyway, the real news here -- apologies for the massive amount of backstory -- is HanbitSoft's acquisition of worldwide publishing rights for Hellgate from Namco Bandai.

If you thought you were safe from the game because you aren't living in Korea, think again. North America and Europe will both be getting another taste of Hellgate soon enough. Are you ready for it? I need more prep time!

Good news. I enjoyed HG:L; it just needed a different payment structure (as in: make paying money worth my while)

So, is this going to be a new released title? or just a giant patch to the existing game?

I never played this game but it's always nice (and rare!) when a dead game comes back to life.

Any idea if the people who had lifetime subscriptions will get them transfered, or are we SOL again?

This game was good. So good, in fact - that it was bad.

And then shut down.

@DeusPayne - Well, the people who paid the lifetime got their moneys worth by the time the game ended.

That's pretty cool. Bought the game and enjoyed it a little, but hopefully the area tilesets, graphics, and gameplay get a better overhaul. Oh and not to make the game so damn quiet haha.

bought the original and it had a lot of potential. Hopefully this revamped version will help it reach some of that.

Oh hell yes! I loved this game when it was out, played it all the time. I do hope the former lifetime subscribers get something though.

@TewDee: please tell me you're kidding. Because we all know how close 3-4 months, and lifetime are.

Why the FUCK would anyone pay money to be able to brand their game with a failed IP that has so much bad word-of-mouth that it even put its own lingo in the gaming lexicon?
TewDee's Avatar - Comment posted on 01/18/2010 22:08

@DeusPayne - I'm not. They kept the game open long enough to make it so that it was as if the lifetime subs were payed by the month, so they got their full subscription in essence.

@Tewdee: Uh..Given the game was up for like..4 monthd. nd the lifetime fee was 150 dollars..you're telling me the sub fee for monthly was 40+ bucks a month?
