Aurelien Regard, creative director and co-founder of Arkedo, announced today that the studio no longer plans to produce any new games. The company hasn't been shut down or gone bankrupt, but there are no more employees at the French developer.

Audrelien explained that part of the reason for shutting down was due to the money situation, and it was "decided to disband the team when there still was enough money to get good conditions for everyone, rather than replace permanent positions with interns and a bad atmosphere."

Another major reason for today's sad news was due to Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit development, as it proved to be too big in scope for the small studio. Additionally, Audrelien and co-founder Camille Guermonprez both want to work on new endeavors.

Sad news all around. Their games were super quirky, and had a lot of love in them. In somewhat related news, Hell Yeah! Pocket Inferno was just released on the App Store. It was developed by Polm Studio, and it looks kind of like Jetpack Joyride.

Review: Axiom Verge

It seems like a foregone conclusion when looking at Axiom Verge that comparisons are going to be made to Metroid. It is, without doubt, similar in more ways than it differs from Nintendo's iconic franchise. The differences matter, though, and Axiom Verge merges classic environment design with new mechanical twists, producing a game that feels both familiar and fresh at the same time.more

Whoa, Myriad looks like no other twin-stick shooter

It takes a lot for a twin-stick shooter to get my attention these days. I like the genre just fine, but it's so saturated that it's hard to muster any excitement for the next one that looks just like the last one. Thankfully...more
