Heist development canned by Codemasters photo

Codemaster has confirmed with CVG that inXile's Hei$t has been canceled. The reason? Well, it probably wasn't very good.

"Codemasters is focusing its future portfolio on high quality titles that will, in the majority, be developed and produced by our internal studios," a rep told CVG.

The game (which was in development for what felt like a billion years) had players performing robberies across San Francisco, and appeared to have a 70s vibe.

CVG is also reporting that the developer is "lining up announcements for some truly huge games in the next few months." What those games could be is unclear, but one of them certainly won't be Hei$t.

I remember seeing this on a list of PS3 exclusives in 2007.

What else could Codemasters have that could be "truly huge games"?

At work we had a temp cover staff member from another store for the day. Her husband works for Codemasters. When we asked what games he was working on at the moment she said

"Heist. Although the nickname around Codemasters for the game is Shite"

And proceeded to tell us how horrible the game is. This was about 2 years ago lol.

I am sad to see a game I didn't even know about pass on into the void. In other news, fruit + cheese is pretty darn tasty.

Dang. The concept was attractive. I love heists. That was the best part of Vice City.

Kinda disappointed, really. Though I guess I shouldn't be, considering the comment above me. :/

It would be an awesome game if it was done right. Good thing they didn't go through with it. It obviously wasn't being done right. Shame.

The reason? It's Codemasters. Nothing they create is very good.

I was really looking forward to that game ever since I first heard about it, back in 07.

Meh... it sounded like a neat game a couple years ago, but I figured it was when, not if, it was officially canceled.
