I am obsessed with Quantic Dream’s previous title Indigo Prophecy and now, after viewing this new Games Con trailer, I am officially obsessed with PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavy Rain.
Wow. I really can’t wait to play this game.
For anyone not familiar with Heavy Rain, or even Indigo Prophecy for that matter, the game is being written and directed by Quantic Dream’s CEO David Cage. Like Indigo Prophecy before it, Heavy Rain focuses more on storytelling than gameplay. Dubbed the first interactive movie, Indigo Prophecy utilizes timed button presses, a complex conversation system, and scripted set pieces to present a very cinematic experience.
As evident in the above trailer, this same engrossing presentation seems to be making a grand return. I never thought I would say this in the year 2008, but the expertly directed action scene looks very reminiscent of Dragon’s Lair. And, surprisingly, that’s a really good thing!
If Heavy Rain lives up to the advance hype (promised real-time tears; advanced rendering features; revolutionary, interactive storytelling; detailed tongue, hair, even finger animation) gamers everywhere should be in for something beautiful and refreshingly unique. Lucky for us, this gorgeous trailer seems to be a step in the right direction.

Ah what a shame, why does a great story game have to be drowned in QTE? Those are the bane of gaming without a doubt, it's what killed the Bourne game for me anyhows
Indigo Prophecy (or Farenheit to us aussies) was miss more than hit IMO. Great story (well, until the necrophilia bit ;P), but that QT gameplay... I dunno mate.
If they can make it a more traditional adventure game, then yeah, it might be a hit.
looks interesting but what's with the buttons on media player's these days. could they possibly make them any smaller, 'cause y'know i just love using a f*ing microscope while trying to navigate...
I can't wait. It looks so much better than Indigo Prophecy, and that's saying something. I'm not talking graphics here, IP was ugly as fuck. They need to have a special edition of HR with an updated IP running on the new engine. Letter writing campaign anyone?
Looks like it might stomp all over the last outing. I'd given up all hope on "interactive movie"-esque games after Bourne Supremacy beat me up, stole £40 out of my wallet and wasted hours of my life that I could have done something more creative with - like punching myself in the face.
Oh, for fellow Brit's it hasn't clicked with yet. Indigo Prophecy = Fahrenheit. Took a few seconds for it to click with me.
Shame about it being PS3 exclusive though - another reason to pick one up I guess.
It certainly looks good, but I wonder if the entire game is going to be like that. Actually, I wonder what the game is going to be like, in general. Still...I'm definitely intrigued.
Apparently there are many solutions to any given problem so for example if you don't like those QTE sequences you can try to sneak your way out and avoid them entirely.
I know most people would be against the game if that's all it was in terms of gameplay, being QTEs. But I wouldn't mind if that's what helps the story become more engrossing, although I'm still sure there's more to it than just that. And the animations/graphics are spectacular, not amazing facial animations like in Heavenly Sword but really damn good nonetheless.
Sorry but Indigo Prophecy just made me angry as hell when I played it, it just felt like one massive quick-time event except you're pushing buttons to open cupboards, grab glasses, pour drinks, sit down, get up, answer the phone, hang up the phone, grab your glass, take a drink, put down your glass, and so on.
Still, this does look like the closes games have ever gotten to being an interactive movie, the shots look fantastic.
I've been waiting to see more of this title ever since the tech demo was it last year? An interesting concept, it definatly looks great, but as knaves said I'm a bit wary at the same time.
"I dunno if it's a good idea to make a WHOLE game of interactive cutscenes... would it even be a videogame anymore?"
Most people considered Dragon's Lair to be videogame. ;)
And Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit was a very aggravating game: it started well, but the story got dumber and dumber as it went along and the constant use of QTEs was really annoying, especially when they stretched on for minutes at a time.
No idea how this game will turn out, but at least the QTE indicators don't take up the entire lower half of the screen, which makes it easier to actually see the action.
Indigo Prophecy was dumb. The story started off cool, but turned into a stupid crapfest. The demo really deceived me on what the game was going to be like... it's like they were inspired at the beginning of the game, but then just gave up halfway through.
This game just looks like one massive QTE. If I wanted that, I'd buy a Sega CD.

Yeah but there's a reason there's movies and books and there's a reason there's videogames. I may be getting the wrong idea but isn't this basically a movie? Why make it a videogame if all the difference is gonna be that you're gonna press some buttons at some occations.
"If games have to sacrifice gameplay to become an "interactive movie", then that is something they should be steering away from, not striving to be."
Looks great. I'm not sure I understand why people hate on QTE so much. I guess I am bias because I grew up with Dragon's Lair, but still - it can't all be first person shooters and third person action games, folks. There are some of us who actually crave SOMETHING different.

Then again I can't stand thee music games either such as Guitar hero and rock band etc where you just have to button mash a sequence togetehr either.
Too linear for me and no fun at all.... all it takes it timing... also if I want to see a movie than I would rent one.
You should try it out, though. It's not as boring as it sounds. :)

Just about to say "yes." :)
There's a little preview of the game at over 1UP.

I agree with this.
Wow. Do want. That looks freaking great, and I think it'll be a refreshing change of pace.
BUT CRAP! I don't have a PS3!
So, you just wait around for it to tell you what buttons to press? Do you have any free will at all?
