Heavy Rain to get DLC? Quantic Dream wants to make the actual game first photo

It's getting to the point where downloadable content is almost a given for any videogame worth its place in the market. We've come to expect it, and when you're even talking about DLC for Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain, you know we're entering a bold new era.

Luckily for us, Quantic Dream has its priorities straight, and has explained that its primary focus is on making the finished product before moving onto any possible extras.

"Honestly, my focus is on putting as much content as possible on the Blu-ray," stated awesome-voiced director David Cage. "We have many plans for DLC, but I won’t work on them until the game is finished and fully satisfying. Games are expensive; my focus is to give as much as I can to gamers for their money."

I loved David Cage simply because he sounds so soothing and lovely during the tutorial for Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, but now I love him even more. That's a great attitude to have, and I wish certain Namco Bandais publishers would regard DLC in the same way.

Here's to Heavy Rain being just as accomplished as Fahrenheit. If it meets that standard, we'll have an excellent, excellent game to look forward to.

That is indeed a good attitude to have, especially for a game like this. It'd be really stupid to hold back content for later release, since this kind of game DEMANDS to be complete at first outing, given its focus on having a coherent plot, pacing etc. It just wouldn't make sense.

In fact, future DLC is almost guaranteed not to be superficial crap like costume packs, simply because of the game's nature. I'm thinking full-on episodes and new plotlines ala the GTAIV DLC.

Also, here's to Heavy Rain not having some extreme twist into sci-fi/matrix plot freefall.

What?! That's an outrage! I demand a game that I can finish in 6 hours and have to pay bit by bit for additional content of half an hour each! I mean, what is this, 2004?!

I also want to pay $5 to dress up my character in an evening gown even if it doesn't fit the story at all.

Wish more people in the business who were in charge thought like this. I know your typical lead developer thinks like this, but they're not often put into the position that allows them to 'make it so.'

I can't wait for this. When I got my PS3, I wanted LBP and Valkyria Chronicles (as well as a BD player), but knowing that this game was coming was really the kicker that made me do it.

You know, I've seen some caps and the trailer, but I still have to wonder what side of the uncanny valley this game's characters will ultimately end up on.

Jim as always your photo captions are full or win.

Also I'm glad someone still has an ounce of common sense in the industry.

It irritates me to no end if a publisher creates DLC alongside a game. Personally, even saying "we have plans after we make the game" seems like a little too much. I'll consider your DLC once I have the game, publishers, just keep it a surprise for a while!

Yeah, it's great that he wants to fill the game with as much content before doing DLC, but he's still considering DLC. Which probably means it'll be incomplete no matter what he claims (unless it turns out to be a 30+ hour game, which is unlikely).

I'd like to see someone release significant DLC someday (eh, maybe Rockstar has done that)

Yes! that's what I fuckin love to hear from a developer. I don't want them working on DLC until after the game is done, I want a complete game for my 60 bucks. Thanx QD.

I can't wait enough for Heavy Rain. I'm sure it'll get a ton of shit for being more cinematic than what people would consider a "game" to be like, but it looks amazing thus far.
