Heavy Rain has gone gold, NA demo date confirmed photo

Heavy Rain has gone gold! This accomplishment is a thing you should be excited about for some reason, hence me shouting things! Nick tells me the build he got in the mail came on a blue-colored disc, not a gold one. You heard it hear first: SCEA is blue-gold colorblind, if such a thing even exists.

The release date is set for February 23, with a demo -- now confirmed for North America -- finalized for a PlayStation Network debut on the 11th. Heavy Rain is a weird one for me in that I have no intention of playing it, but I am extremely eager to see reactions from the general gaming public.

Will they go for Quantic Dream's ambitious method of storytelling that we don't see much of outside of the studio's games, or will the more tedious everyday tasks bring down the experience for a lot of players? At this point, I feel like it could go either way.

This is a skip, it's really not a game anymore, but more of a choose your own adventure movie, like goosebumps for grownups.

If this manages to be as good as the first half of Fahrenheit, then sign me up. In a weird way, I can feel comparisons to Shenmue incoming with its upcoming release. I really liked that game, and that had the same sort of focus on normality and routine to help highlight its dramatic moments, and that worked brilliantly.

I'm a grownup ... BRING ON THE GOOSEBUMPS!!

Seriously, I am stoked for this. It may not be for everyone, especially those who aren't looking for something new. I've been playing games for a long time now, and I always enjoy playing a game that tries something different, be it this, Rez, Seaman, or indie games, (my new favorite being Continuity). It's groups of folks like those at Quantic Dream that will continue to keep pushing this medium forward. Everyone may not agree with it, but at least they are trying something unique.

... and no, new is not changing the perks you gain in multiplayer or a new cover system.

There is an entire genre of gaming known as "Adventure" games. Some of the most critically acclaimed and successful have involved mundane tasks performed by simply pointing and clicking. It really bums me out that so many people are writing off the game without playing it or trashing it for being intentionally slow paced. It could quite possibly suck, but we don't know that yet and just because it might not be for everyone doesn't mean it's bad or "not a game".

I'm definitely getting the demo.

Beyond that....the future is uncertain.

@RichardBlaine

Right on man! The Broken Sword series still ranks up there as one of my favorite series of games.

Old news indeed. Please don't become like Samit, cutting and gluing old or obvious news thereby turning dtoid into every other game blog site. Also, this game is a must rental, much like ME2

This game still has me quite interested. It'll be a day one purchase if I can get a job so I can afford FXIII and GOW3 the following month...being a gamer AND a jobless student sucks >_<

Regardless, I'm very intrigued by the direction the game appears to be going in, and I can agree with x1251 that I need a break from shooting things. Glad that so far, 2010 looks to have more variety for the home consoles than the last 2 years (at least to me).

Am I interested? Yes.

Will I be able to afford it? Probably not.

I look forward to stripping for a man and then slapping him in the face.

..What?

I guess it's good to know when the demo will be out. I am eager to see it, but not sure if it will amount to anything other than a tech demo.

finally something different to try on in this shooter-gen.
anyone who doesn't want to give it at least a "shot" if he's got the chance surely he's drowning in his generic button smashing shooters...and that's sad.

Minds are like parachutes they work better when they're "open"

Wow.. this turned into a flame thread pretty quickly. I haven't reading the front page comments in a while. I'm sad to see that Destructoid has been overrun with the fanboy rejects of other major blogs.

Since everyone on drunkcast calls me a fanboy, I'll fuel the fire this once. If not just for lulz.

YOU ARE A FUCKING COWARD IF YOU DON'T THINK THAT THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME EVER!

I'm actually really interested in checking out Heavy Rain. I'm not sure how much fun it will be as a videogame, but it seems like an interesting interactive experience.

Seriously though, I'm glad that people are willing to create large budget games that don't involve the same rehashed shit we have become accustomed to in the industry. I'll buy this game for the exact same reason that I bought littlebigplanet, psychonauts, and knights of the old republic. The principal that you can take a genre or ideas that have been used in games before, and implement them in a way that is engaging and new to the user.

Don't be a fucking douche. Just play your goddamn video games, and quit taking stupid internet conversations so seriously.

I really want to play this. The only thing that'd prevent me from getting it, is if the reviews say that it has game breaking mechanics or glitches.

I liked Indigo Prophecy, well until the last third of the game when it nose dived deep into the realm of wtf. If your game is strongly story driven then it's usually a good idea to create a story that's worth a damn. I'll wait until post launch fallout and see what happens.
