Speaking with Eurogamer, Quantic Dream's David Cage has admitted that it's unlikely the "on hold" downloadable content for Heavy Rain will ever be produced.
"Chronicles" was set to to be a series of post-launch content for Heavy Rain, the first of which -- "The Taxidermist" -- was released earlier this year. It's likely the only content that will be released. The reasons? The developer has shifted supported for an upcoming updated that will make Heavy Rain playable with the upcoming PlayStation Move controller.
"Our approach was to make no compromise on the quality of the 'Chronicles,' and offer exactly the same quality than [sic] the original game," he says. "So the answer is yes. 'Chronicles' as we saw them were ambitious and with high expectations. As explained, they are on hold to allow the team to work on Move and on new projects, and I doubt they will ever be produced."
Three scripts for "Chronicles," prequels to the main narrative of the retail Heavy Rain, had already been written. Cage calls the stories "very strong" and "surprising for all Heavy Rain fans." The decision to focus so hard on Move, was Sony's, he explains. But he understands the decision saying he's "really proud" how the game works with moves, and that it will show gamers "Move can be used for things other than family entertainment."
Would you have rather had more Heavy Rain content, or are you happy with the upcoming Move support?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I am a big fan of film noir and the premise of the game intrigued me to no end but the actual execution left a lot to be desired. The game, and story, just kind of trudged along and ultimately did little for me.
I like the groundwork Quantic Dream laid out, though; this genre could flourish if executed properly.
Like I said, fucking lame.
Fuck Move.
Except, you know, these DLC have little to nothing to do with Heavy Rain's story. All they are is a chance to flesh out the characters on little side stories that happened before the events of Heavy Rain.
More content sounds better than motion control, honestly.
How is this company still in business?
Right?
I'm pretty sure you're the well known troll who's been called out many times.
And I like Heavy Rain, a Playstation 3 release. However, Move, as well as Kinect, are fucking stupid.
You're the fanboy. Don't try to blame other folks because of your own stupid logic, my dear friend.
why am i not surprised
it looks like stupid waggle is far more important than games for sony right now
no I think that they are focused on getting as much software out for their newest hardware. Quantic is probably getting a big bonus for making it Move compatible, so they're focusing on that instead of DLC. At this point they are looking to get more stores stocking Heavy Rain as a companion to Move so that new consumers will purchase the full package of Heavy Rain while shopping for Move. This is a focus to get more people to buy games instead of DLC.
Its a shame that they are doing this as I'm sure many of us are jaded on Move and just want extra content instead of this other stuff.
On-topic: I don't care either way. I would have liked to see more about the characters, but having them be prequels just kind of ruined the whole thing for me, especially in the Taxidermist
Hope the update for move is free.
You have issues. The only reason you cry like a crybaby and spew fanboy bullshit is because you are the one who's a big time fucking crybaby fanboy. You pissed off a bunch of people when you bashed Jim Sterling, me, and many other Destructoid members last time. Stop being a dipshit. Sony doesn't pay you. Stop being their free fanboy whore.
And then he came back.
When he gets banned again, I'm going to make a new account pretending to be him, but I'm only going to post pictures of unicorns jumping over rainbows in every thread.
Here's a preview of what's to come:
thats a more or less logical explanation, however i still dont like this trend
my biggest fear is that microsoft and sony could turn themselves into 2 more nintendos (in a non-awesome way), trying to squeeze every single penny out of this motion controller bullshit 'till they get tired of it 3 years later and start making GOOD games again
