Heavy Rain DLC will make a murderer of you photo

Heavy Rain is finally on the horizon, which means it's clearly time to start getting some details on upcoming DLC for the game. In an interview with Quantic Dream's David Cage, French site GameBlog TV was given some tidbits about what we can expect post-release.

Called Heavy Rain: Chronicles, the DLC will be short expansions to the story. As we already know, The Taxidermist (the first demo level of Heavy Rain shown back in November of 2008) will be the first bit of content. Subsequent episodes will include a prequel story about drug-addicted FBI agent Norman Jayden and a chance for players to play as the much touted "Origami Killer" who lies at the center of Heavy Rain's plot.

I'm digging the idea of playing as a serial killer, especially in a serious context. The new content should be arriving fairly soon after the game releases, though no specific dates have been given yet.

The serial killer thing could be really interesting, or could fall completely flat. It should have a lot to do with what the player wants to do compared to the killers compulsions. It could be hard to pull off taking away the player's choices in a game like this.

Is this the bit of DLC that comes with my preorder?

And finally, a game that lets me play as a serial killer. I wonder if they will give you the subtle option to renounce your killing ways and get some pizza instead.

Because I'd totally do that.

playing as a serial killer that isnt Manhunt would be amazing. I'm afraid doing it just as a DLC isnt going to have the same weight. This needs to be a full game.

yeah. a serious context serial killer would be interesting. Throw in some psychology and moral ambiguity. it would be amazing.

Hopefully the DLC status will diffuse the sure to be created 'issue' surrounding it, and we can slowly get awesome concepts like this more accepted by the mainstream so that focus and anger can shift to the next big thing.

The game isn't even out yet and they are already talking about DLC. I wonder how much they have taken out to sell later.

Thank you everyone that complained for years about not being able to take the time to finish games that were "too long" now devs are conveniently leaving chunks out of their development so they can sell you what you should have been able to buy with the game originally. I can't wait to see the bleeding hearts that will stick up for the devs responding to this post.

Nice to hear it's something better. I hope it'll turn out to be something better.

Reading the translated article makes me iffy on the dlc. Only 1 hour of play? I need to see what the price for their dlc is going to be before making any decision on buying it, no matter how cool it sounds.

well ph00p, when you listen to the interview (well, I can since I speak french) David Cage says that those DLC are not necessary to the understanding of the story and that he hopes people will get the ones for the characters they felt closer to. It's not content that was cut from the game. Once again, nobody is forcing you to buy them all or any of them for that matter. You can still play, understand, and enjoy the game without them.

@ShadowKirby Just the fact that dlc is going to be released once the game comes out feels as though they left it out of the game. You don't make dlc until your done with the actual game. I agree with what you're saying but, you have to question dlc now. Especially after seeing games like assassins creed 2 and resident evil 5.

inb4 morons, who have yet to get their hands on the game, and their quirky QTE comments... oh, shit, I'm already late.

I'd love to play as The Origami Killer, it'd be interesting to get his side of the story, maybe understand his motives and intentions a bit more. Maybe he has a reason for doing what he does... a la Zepp (Saw).

One of the benefits of DLC is that it allows some ideas from the gaming public to be incorporated into the game. This is obviously not possible when the DLC is released with the original title. I guess they want to cash in on the original releases marketing push.

In a serious context? As compared to what? A comedic one?

As opposed to every other video game out there. Name me a game where you're a serial killer that actually has a serious tone to it, because as far as I know, it doesn't exist.

I'm hoping that's what they bring to us with the Dexter video game. Hopefully it'll ... oh wait.. what this? It's a Marc Ecko game. Ok, nevermind.

It'd sound less money-grabbing if they announced the DLC after their game comes out.
