Heavy Rain Directors cut arriving November 8th photo

Two years following the release of Heavy Rain, a "Directors Cut" version of the game is set to hit stores on November 8th. Continuing the trend of "complete edition" releases, this package includes previously unreleased content, as well as videos, the soundtrack and "The Taxidermist" add-on content.

For my money, Heavy Rain is a game best experienced in an MST3K setting, where you and your friends can laugh at the strange behavior and odd characterizations. I've already done that once, though, and something tells me it's not going to hold up to repeated viewings in the way that, say, Manos: The Hands of Fate might.

I never played Heavy Rain, but I did play Indigo Prophecy. And that had an uncut version where you saw cartoon... excuse me... I mean video game polygons representing boobies.

Apparently it's not a game according to Jim Sterling. Dragon's Lair has even less interaction than Heavy Rain and it's a legendary game hmmmm....

Well, that came out of nowhere. I got the original for Christmas last year and still haven't gotten around to playing it!! Also, Space Mutiny is superior :-p

For $30? Couldn't one just buy the game used for about $10, ignore the unecessary dlc, and pirate the ost?

Will it have the intended content Cage wanted to include but cut due to the silly Move support?

Finally I can see the complete vision David Cage had for Heavy Rain!

Which is to say enduring a socially inept French man writing an incomprehensible story where realistic looking humans interact in a completely.

it should just be a blank blu-ray, since the "director" says that you should only play it once.

Guess I should be glad I held off on the Greatest Hits version. I don't care about the negativity surrounding this game, I wanna play through it. The question is whether I do that with a controller or with Move. I tried both on the demo and the Move was a little weird.

Based on what I've read about the included extra content, I simply can't understand why this is called a Director's Cut. As far as I can tell there's nothing in this version that originally was intended for release by the director, but then cut. Just name it a GOTY, Ultimate, Complete or whatever edition, but please don't just throw words around, Quantic....

At this point, I see no point in buying a game day one ever again. As much as I want Arkham City, I'm just going to wait for the "Complete Edition." Fuck it.

I’m guessing it’s called Director’s cut instead of GOTY edition purely to feed David Cages ego/ delusions that he is a film director.

This just sounds like my collectors edition, so unless that 'never before released' shit is the scrapped DLC - and it's likely not - I will not be purchasing it again.

Cage leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I really don't like the guy. He's like a failed director who desperately wants to prove to Hollywood what he is capable of; whilst constantly reminding the gaming world that he does not make games. Fuck him.

I enjoyed Heavy Rain greatly. This may be worth a re-buy since the Director's Cut is going to be a Greatest Hits game and not a $40 to $60 re-hash with bonus content. Kind of sucks that the Director's Cut has to be re-bought and just not patched in or offered as DLC for those who already have the original. But it being a Greatest Hits game along with some extra content does take some of the sting off.

I really want to play the game with the scrapped supernatural stuff to see how much it changes the story.

Heavy is the one game that gets the absolute most undeserved hate anywhere.

Resident Evil 1 had a Director's Cut, do you people hate on that title too? This game didnt win so many GOTY's so its not named GOTY edition , derp, it Director's cut, meaning the game director decided what to put.

I was glad at first that a Heavy Rain/ Cage article wasnt posted by Jim, but oh well, I geuss if a game isnt a military shooter or the director isnt Kojima then both parts will be getting un-called for hate from this site.

For being so focused on story it shouldn't have been even LESS airtight than other games' stories. David Cage is not a very good director, even after three ga-- erm... "interactive software experiences".

I couldn't even make it past the two hour mark in the first one. The horrendous writing, stilted animation, rampant sexism and general idiocy was too much for me. I struggle to believe anyone could have enjoyed it enough to want to replay it with bonus scenes deemed too rubbish for the original release.

What is all the trash talk about? This game is a classic and happens to be one of the best games of this generation, why does a game have to involve some kind of preposterous vulgarity to get some respect from this community? Seriously guys and gals, this game pretty much shows the world that interactive entertainment can be so much more than what you'd expect. It has an excellent story, fantastic writing, beautiful graphics and fine animations, David Cage should be applauded for his efforts here for trying something different and succeeding.

@Im The Singer in Symphony X

Well, first off, this 'Director's Cut' has just been announced. I wasn't exactly around on Destructoid when that specific version of RE1 was released, so that statement's moot.

Also, I've played Heavy Rain and, gameplay-wise, enjoyed the hell out of it. I'm also a huge fan of Fahrenheit. Still, Heavy Rain had a LOT of shortcomings, something almost everyone agrees on. A terrible story filled with plotholes, ridiculous twists, from time to time subpar voice acting; seriously, there were quite some issues with this game. So that "hate" is pretty justified in my opinion.

Just because Heavy Rain was 'different' doesn't make it immune to criticism and most definitely doesn't make it a piece of art. If you HAVE to be pretentious in your gaming, go for something truly great, like Flower, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus or Flower Sun And Rain. Y'know, games that aren't severely broken.
