Quantcast

I'm not gonna lie, I have the best job in the known universe. Not only do I get to always hear from adoring fans on how worthless I am, but I also get to go to special preview events that make every single living moment of my life worth doing. Such is the case tonight as I'm headed to San Francisco (Gate 68A at LAX ftw!) to get some substantial time with the most-anticipated Xbox 360 game there will ever be, Halo 3.

The plan is to start at around 5 p.m. and play until 1 a.m. Yeah, 1 a.m., I'm a lucky boy indeed. Hopefully, I'll still be in one piece by the end of the night or tomorrow morning to let you know how it all went down and if Halo 3 lives up to lofty expectations.

Awesome, let us know how truly bad or good it is. I don't think I can handle another HALO 2 :(

I don't understand this hate with Halo 2 that some people have? Do you hate it because you're not into online multiplayer?

Guess not. :(

I'll just stick to the new Crackdown dlc. Harpoons FTW!!

I think "most anticipated game release of all time" is a bit of an overstatement. Wouldn't more people be looking forward to GTA4 or something? Or does the borderline insane fervour of the average rabid halo fan count more than number of people? I'd put halo 3 anticipation around the same level as twilight princess, albeit back before it's release date got pushed back a few dozen times.

brad, that's just a PR thing. They like to hype up their junk.

It'd be really hard pressed not to have so much hype for this. People are insane for Halo. I haven't met many people who don't play it.

Brad, you would think so, but if you go by preorder numbers, you may find that "Grand Theft Auto IV’s combined PS3 and 360 preorders at the chain of stores comes in a very distant second" to Halo 3.

I wouldn't say hate so much as "not living up to the hype" I never had a chance to play it online due to lack of internets in my place when the game came out. According to a lot of people the online portion of H2 is pretty fun.

Now that I have XBL and hooked up to the internets I may have to play a game or 2 and practice for the H3 MP beta.

That "PR thing" is a riot. Might as well delete what that card said and put "God Developed Halo 3".

Hm...if you preorder the Legendary Edition online at Gamestop, you don't get charged until it ships, right? I might need to put in my order now and get the money in there by this fall.

Since I live in San Francisco and work downtown, knowing this absolutely kills me. Hell, it's probably going on a block away from the office. Very jealous of you Mr. Summa

Summa, let us know if they finally fixed the way you join online games. you know, if they actually let the player select from a list of multiplayer rooms like games have been doing for a fuckin decade? if it is still the same bull shit like in halo2, then fuck it, i am not buying it.

Summa, also bring back the pure gold Fabergé eggs and solid diamond hookers. You know, the stuff Bungie spent all their money on when they should have been making Halo 3 look... whats the word? Oh yeah, "next-gen".

*goes back to waiting for Bioshock, Unreal and GTA*

Musashi, they now have a thing when you're joining a game called a 'Veto" button and if enough people push it, the game will chose a diff game type.

I'm almost certain it will be MP, they won't leak any of the SP till the game comes out. Kinda like with Halo 2.

@ MusashiX2

I was of the impression that Halo 2 had the best onlien gaming system.

Party mode, Moving from game to game, Certainly a lot less hassle than mashing games on a list in trial and error.

Certainly took some of the sting out of XBL for me.

@Summa:

Halo 2 is a great game, but compared to Halo the multiplayer was horrible. The story was more fun, but they watered down the MP for my tastes. Instead of it being a game about who could aim the best, it became a game of who could get to the power weapons the fastest. And don't even get me started on the guided missle aka sword. The game just seemed to be based around cheap kills instead of strategy. And I will never understand why they made the weapons not respawn unless someone put them down. I was so happy when the weapons respawned automatically in Gears. But, as a whole, it's still a great game. I imagine Halo 3 will be awesome, I think Bungie caught a whiff of what Halo2Sucks.com was cooking and listened to their hardcore fans for this game

What really blows my mind is that people choose to hate Halo 2 because of the single-player campaign. Sure, multiplayer may have been the pinnacle of the experience, but I don't remember the story sucking all that much.

OMG SPOILAR WARNING !!!

Granted, I liked the storylines of Half-Life 2 and The Chronicles of Riddick (don't knock it unless you played it) more, but that's only because of their insistence on character immersion. Halo 2 had a pretty interesting premise, and I for one am always down for stories about maniac religions unwittingly destroying themselves, as well as the idea of playing as a character who wants revenge on a character that you also control. Even the Gravemind seems astoundingly cool if you can avoid the Little Shop of Horrors references. A sentient collective parasite that has lost its patience for the petty squabbling of its cowering prey? Hey, it's not Shakespeare, but I'll bite.

What did you guys want out of a sci-fi epic? Shadow of the Colossus with guns? An interactive Les Miserables?

Christ...

when i tried playing halo 2 online, all i wanted was a game of CTF. one hour later, i still did not get lucky enough to be put in a game of CTF. it was fucking terrible. imo nothing is better than the setup for Resistance. ranked and custom games, quick matches, lists of all the rooms, and joining rooms with a group of friends as a team. they should just copy Resistance.

Halo 3 prints more than money... it cures cancer... its the new folding@home. For every bandwidth spent playing it is used to help fight cancer.

Hey, hope you have a lot of fun. Maybe you'll get more then the multiplayer build of the game to play. take some shaky cam footage for kicks.....and leak it to the internet...and obviously you have to have bad filming skills or they might figure out who you are.
