Damn, talk about hell hathing no fury like a woman scorned. I'm not into Dragon Age, so hopefully BioWare will give the same depth of character relationships to the party members in Mass Effect 2.

Wow Alistair was capable of doing something that terrible but he is awesome and amazing friend this changes everything I think about him.

Sooo I've been playing and I have to say Elsa I'd never sleep with him. Not my speed. Too humble, too pretty, (so far) he just kinda smells like "that guy." I can smell his shit a mile away. Again, not readin' for sake of spoilers but this guy reminds me of Kaidan from Mass Effect.

For me, Alistair really starts to derail around the Landsmeet and not in the ways I was expecting. I started my first game with Female Human Noble and wasn't too disappointed when I got to this part. Of course, I had copious saves around this point to explore once I beat the game and so I did. Alistair really became a huge manchild and there's no way at all to make him see reason despite all the other times I could do so. I understand what the game was trying to do, but giving you little option between agreeing with Sir Templass or not felt incredibly restrictive compared to the rest of the Landsmeet. Of course, you can punish the man by agreeing with Morrigan's offer. After he tossed my second Female Dalish out into the cold, he had it coming!
@Xzyliac - I could bear to have Alistair around and not feel too weirded out when he started to show interest. Kaidan, on the other hand, simply felt wrong to begin with. Maybe it didn't help he shared the same voice actor as Carth, his character pretty much felt like some random writer had procrastinated too long and wrote his entire dialogue and backstory five minutes before the meeting. I tried to give Kaidan the benefit of the doubt, but everytime I went to bug him at his space-age fuse box, the less I wanted to hear him talk. That's saying a lot since I'm a big fan of BioWare games. Kaidan felt like a wasted opportunity. And for goodness' sake, I hope they don't put the next Romantic Interest under an annoying yellow light in ME2. Urgh.

this made me laugh like crazy yet it was at the same time very interesting show of the different possibilities you get in that game :-)

I'll also note there's an easy way to get rid of that yellow light: ditch Kaiden and impregnate Liara! Seriously Iove Liara. I was such a Paragon bitch (not without reason, it just turned out that way) and she was so sweet and innocent. We were the most kickass odd couple ever.

LOL! Wow... a lot more responses than I thought I would get. I wrote this while I was still really pissed off about getting dumped. I have to say that the emotion was very similar to getting dumped in real life which was what surprised me... it just seemed to come out of nowhere and my expectations were entirely different. Regarding Alistair as King... yeah, I too thought he was pretty weak (while Anora was pretty kick ass!), but I figured with me being Queen that the Kingdom would be in safe hands... so again, getting dumped was like a real slap in the face.
Sadly, I think you always remember your first... and my first ending was like an awkward virgin... a little unsatisfying. :(

As a guy in a bromantic relationship with Alistair, I can't believe he'd do such a thing.

But I think it's funny that Zevran makes a better boyfriend than Alistair. At least with Zevran you know where he is coming from, so if you get betrayed you can't be too shocked.

I do agree I'd have expected more maturity from Alistair, as he's the one who initiates you with the Grey Wardens from the beggining. And yeah, he really failed at maturity at Landsmeet... learning that he dumps female characters as he becomes King is quite shocking, I didn't expect that. I always viewed Alistair as the funny guy to have around, if somewhat unassertive. The perfect sidekick, in short. Not so much for women, it seems. :S Poor Elsa.

That's hilarious. I've been so afraid of screwing up my courtships that I'm more aware of my affection status' than i am of my combat stats. Juggling an in game love interest while trying to save the world... hard times.

I've been blown away hearing other people talk about their experiences in the game and how different they are from mine. It's given me a great incentive to play again with different NPCs (listening to Zevran and Oghren hit on Wynne is hilarious. She's just so dumbstruck). My husband was telling me how he had the option playing a male character to accept kisses for payment, something I, playing female characters, never had the choice of.

Great post, Elsa. I got quite a few chuckles from reading it. I romanced Morrigan and she really fucked me over too.
If you want anyone to commiserate with, there seems to be a substantial number of ladies on the dragon age forums who feel (or felt and have moved on) the exact same way you do. Far beyond any other game I've ever taken notice of, Dragon Age has generated an incredible amount of dialogue about its characters.

I am pretty sure you CAN become Alistair's princess-consort, but only if you play a female human noble, and probably need +100 approval. I know for sure I became a prince-consort to Anora in my male human noble playthrough after I made her queen.
