With a name like Elite you'd think they'd be packing all the latest innovations in HDMI technologies out of the box, but it seems to be ever-so-slightly gimped from the get-go. Snaileb spotted this little gem noting its lightness in the pants:
While you already know that the new Xbox Elite will feature HDMI like its PS3 counterpart has since launch, the Elite's HDMI will be slightly gimped, running at the 1.2 standard instead of the 1.3. What does this mean for you? Neither of the newest Lossless formats (Dolby Digital+ nor True HD) can be passed through its HDMI (not that you'd notice in most TV audio setups).
This is not to say I wouldn't still trade my 20GB model for the Elite—I'd just be a bit less pleased with the whole experience. On the plus side, a Spring update should bring 1080p IRE-level adjustments to the VGA port on all 360 models.
Obviously, this is such as granular deficiency that would only effect consumers with ridiculously high-end setups. (You know, the exact group of people that would trade up their existing component rigs for it.) While it is uncertain whether or not a future patch can correct this, it does marginally justify that $600 Folding@home appliance I recently put in my living room. Better than nothing, I guess.

Enter the Dragon & Batman are
being released for Blu-Ray soon.
the only thing the Elite is doing, IS
making the PS3 look better and better.
*very* NSFW
But this news makes me so happy that I didnt wait for the Elite over a regular 360.
Analog C-4 LIFE!!!!
I don't know if you were talking about a different from component and 1.2 HDMI but I just hooked up an HDMI cable to my PS3 and I saw a difference from my component monster cable. The colors were way more vivid and saturated as well as things looking a lot more "crisp" than with component.
WTF is IRE-level?
BTW I dont think the X360 1.2 versus the PS3 1.3 HDMI should be a problem after all they are different machines and should be looking different. I really cant see PS3 versions of games be drastically different than the X360 version becasue the devs wont be working extra hours to make a specific version prettier. Once they get a game looking great and up and running for the 2 consoles they r going to leave it as it is and focus of different content wich will begin to define which version is better.
I could see that extra work in the graphix deparment of a first party game but on multiplatform, where we should see the difference side by side it should pretty much the same.
